Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

It had been a cold night which resulted in a foggy morning. It was clearing by the time we got to the trig but the grass was instant wet feet. A quick and easy trig that's in good order.. it stands out when there's no trees.

Day 3 in our road trip west, we woke up in Hay this morning and the weather was finally starting to clear, we were long over due for getting someone of our gear and tent back to its regular dry and comfortable state. A lovely but very flat part of the world
Saw this one standing tall next to the road and quickly whipped out the phone to get a quick snap.

18-Sep-20
Travelling from Balranald to Deniliquin today with fitzy_1965 and albida33 whilst on our Outback NSW caching holiday.

Quick stop and snap for me here today.

08-Aug-20
Travelling around NSW during this 2020 pandemic kown as COVID 19 as we can't cross any borders. My main aim is to gather at least one cache in each Shire/county that is still pink on my map however I can't resist grabbing the odd GCA cache, especially if it is a trig sitting on the side of the road like this one as I travel from Balranald towards Hay. We're on our way from Mildura to Hay today and this trig was on our target list. It looks a little sad and neglected but is still recognisable. TFTC

11-Jul-19
There as clear as clear, but this one deserved getting out of the car for a decent shot.

31-Dec-18
a bit busted up by clearly a trig. I'm used to them in high places so was not expecting one here, however I guess it is relatively high

12-Aug-18
Having been along this road before, I am surprised I didn't have it in my collection before.
Alas it is looking a bit worse for wear.

14-May-18
On the highway to Balranald. We will stay at the caravan park so we can log some GA caches.

Yes, easy to spot. Thanks

16-Apr-14
Saw this trig by the side of the road as I drove towards Balranald. What a bonus that it even had a dirt road to pull off the highway safely!

Conscious of the truck I’d finally managed to get past just a few kilometres earlier, I jumped out & took some photos quickly, then got back on the road as fast as I could.

24-Feb-14
1420 Got right underneath this one, and will try to get a better photo with a camera rather than a telephone on the way to the Mega

14-Dec-13
Easy to spot without the coorindates. Not surprising as it's on the Hay Plains.

11-Oct-13
A quick stop on our way home from South Australia, couldn't be closer to the road!
TFTC Wilbert67

09-Sep-13

08-Jun-12
The morning sun was still quite low in the sky as we arrived at this trig point. This was certainly an easy drive by. The required photo has been added to the Gallery. TFTC

20-Dec-11
Have driven past many times! Finally remembered to log it! Great place for a trig!

09-Jul-11
An easy find on th first day of our road trip. Logging on the go, photo to follow soon.

Cheers

01-Jun-11
A nice quick find on our way Westwards. Normally I'd get out the car and stand in front of the trig for a pic, but we were trying to stay in front of a convoy of 4 road trains. Mrs J had to hold the GPSr and grab the picture from the car window so we could get back on the road ASAP.

16-Apr-11
must be the easiest Trig I've had to find, so easy I over shot it and had to turn around to get it.. so flat here its laughable to have a trig .. photo to follow when I return from my trip.

11-Dec-10
Zipping along the highway on the way back to sydney, I noticed this trig point on the side of the road, so absolutely had to stop and grab a pic - it was not until I was at the PC at home I could work out which one it was,
Pity GCA does not have a caches along the route feature like GC does (or does it?)
Anyway, a welcome reason to stop and pick grass seeds out of the socks/shoes - as well as a chance to be bugged by dozens of grasshoppers/locusts in the process - I was still finding them in the car 2 days later.

21-Oct-10
Found at 12:00 while on a caching trip from Adelaide to Wollongong. How could we not do a drive-by Trig? And out here, a break from driving is a relief.

28-Sep-10
It is a long way there,
and it is a long way back.

It is a good place for a breather. When I saw the black disk rising like a moon over the horizon I knew I was going to pull over for a minute.

I thought I had seen a trig out in a paddock earlier but it could have been my eyes playing tricks. Later I saw a few trigs that materialised into cabbage tree palms.

Waymarking refers to this as Ti Tree Lake.

08-Sep-10
A quick drive buy grab with Black Bunny.

08-Sep-10
A quick drive by grab on the Hay plain.

21-Aug-10
Nice and simple, nearly missed it infact Mr. Green but got it in the nick of time.

19-Aug-10
Yes !! I too have driven past this trig point 50+ times over the years and never stopped to take in the glorious mountain top vista Razz
This bump in the Sturt Highway has always signalled the end Very Happy or the beginning Sad of the crossing of the Hay Plain.
Todays crossing was wet !!
Yes it was raining cats and dogs and damn cold too.
I just bet it was a bit warmer on the other side of Hells Gate just to the east Cool
With a trig point to log today I risked getting the geomobile bogged (again) and stepped out onto jelly-firma.
I took the photo as quick as possible and retreated back to the warmth of the car Very Happy

18-Jul-10
Another forgot to log. Drove past this one (again) today, and know we stopped to take photo's on a previous trip (one of them).

Pics to follow.

Thanks

Have been past this Trig 50+ times over 50 yrs. Finally managed to stop !

06-Apr-10
Found on the way home from the Mega Mega at Wagga Wagga whilst travelling with the Rocky Glen Grommets. Braved the rain to claim this one as it was so close to the road!

05-Apr-10
So that's where they put trig points when there are no hills! Missed this one on the way to the Wagga Wagga mega event, but appreciated the stop on the way back home.

02-Apr-10
Was having a bit of trouble getting a good picture here as the sun was coming from the wrong direction and screwing with the photos.

02-Apr-10
Found by Bob at 1400

I got a real surprise while on my way to the Mega Event in Wagga - the Hay Plain is as flat as a billiard table, but I gues there must be a slight bump now and then and they decided to stick a trig marker on this one. It's only about 1m inside the fence, so I decided to grab a picture and log it.

21-Mar-10
Driving from Canberra to Koraleigh (near Swan Hill) to see family (who were visiting from Perth) for the weekend.
Very flat around here, so surprised to see a trig, and of course had to stop for a quick photo op.

Thanks.

03-Feb-10
My first trig log. Drive by and could not resist.

10-Jan-10
Took photos at this one with Cached and her team on the way back from Tassie this year - have driven past it a few times since, about time I logged it

07-Jan-10
Quick Stop on the way through from Balranald to Wagga Wagga. Easy to find - it is next to the fence. Smile

24-Dec-09
In 30+ years of traveling along this road, I think this is the first time I have stopped here. Albida.

03-Dec-09
Visited the trig and on the way to Adelaide. Thanks.

24-Oct-09
Found this with RexTrex and McPhan on our expedition to Adelaide, and beyond for some. Steep climb! Impressed our Kiwi mate with the magnificence of our hills here in Australia.... (no photo because I was the dope behind the lens and forgot myself!)

24-Oct-09
Travelling across the plain with a couple of mates, (one a Kiwi who wanted to drive this stretch) when I remembered this trig from last visit and the GCA cache.

Gotta be one of the easiest trigs to climb up to.

TFTC and the elevation.

06-Oct-09
Driving along the Sturt Highway. You would have to be blind to miss this marker.
