Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

#GA1485 - 16:35; Day 12 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune, albida33 and fitzy_1965. After our first night in Alice Springs for the Red Centre Experience Mega, we were ready for a day of caching around the local area. Today we decided to head north along the Stuart Highway to collect the NOAS series and then the Plenty Highway to Gemtree, along with any other caches we happened across on our travels. Back in Alice Springs at the end of our mission, we made our way up Anzac Hill for this trig and a couple of others too. While there were two survey marks in the area, the posted coords indicated that the obelisk is the trig. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1353. Found during Day 2 of my epic visit to Alice Springs for the Red Centre Experience Event and further travels after that.

Flew into Alice Springs and met up with my fellow intrepid team members Sol de Lune, Albida33 and LuckyL10n for the start of an amazing trip throughout the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and eventually back to Canberra. The Red Centre Experience is the main attraction of course, but also on our agenda are a lot of GC Caches, lots of trigs, as well as plenty of GCA Trads, History and Virtual Caches (and maybe the odd beer or two ??!! Smile. Go Clan Cerberus !

Another trig for the trip. Really nice views from up here. There was a bit of confusion omong the cachers up here as to exactly what was the trig but we decided it clearly was the oblisk. Lest We Forget. Photo taken. Then it was back in the car and off to the next one !

Another trig added to the dragonZone list. I really enjoy finding trigs and also the new CORS that are popping up everywhere !

TFTC !!

Like several others we found a couple of possibilities but like Sol de Lune we were pointed to the obelisk.

13-Apr-17
Interesting location. 3 possible locations for this one, however the GPSr was leading us to the obelisk, so that's the one I'm using. The two nearby SM are also possible and I have photos for them, but for me, the obelisk is the winner. Others may think different, and they may be right instead.....

12-Apr-17
Actually didn't know which was the trig so took a pic of both likely candidates..... Think think we'll go with this one.

12-Apr-17
Not quite the structure we are used to, but a find just the same.

Day 4 of our trip to The Red Centre Experience in Alice Springs for Easter.

10-Apr-17
Staying in Alice for the Red Centre Experience Event and snapped several contenders for this trig.

09-Apr-17
We found so many things that could be the trig so took a number of photos. We think the locked cover plate was it. We also took the memorial obelisk as that can be easily spotted from anywhere and 2 others. We covered all the bases!

Rather confusing as there are 2 markers up here. Great views. TFTC

05-Aug-16
our first GCA in the Territory. Great views from up here and a great memorial. TFTT

06-Jul-16
Almost a drive-by. A good view of Alice Springs from here. That's not me in the photograph.

04-Jun-16
One of the things to do in Alice apparently as there were lots of people up here tonight.

TFTT and the word

12-Apr-16
Didn't have time for much caching on this holiday, but managed to fit in a few. This one we came up for the view at sunset & realised there was a trig, so bonus!

15-Jul-15
Great views and a lot of information about our ANZACs

27-Aug-14
One of the easiest trig points around Very Happy
Also one of the best views around Cool

But forget looking for a tripod or other such structure ...
The trig point is there, but it is locked !! Shocked
There was a bit of a crowd up here, but that didn't stop me finding this 'cache' Razz

Anzac Hill Trig

05-Jul-14
A second visit up here to take the trig photo. Very chilly wind late today!

05-Jul-14
There are a few contenders for the trig up here. It looks as if there was an old one here but it may have been replaced..or disabled.

30-May-14
long weekend trip to Alice a few caches and a bonus trig

26-Jun-13
Found on the VH-URK Kimberly Broome flying trip of 2013.

We were up here to enjoy the view and to grab the nearby GC cache when I spotted the survey point. Should have figured there was a Trig marker up here !

19-Jun-13
Found the cache on the other site and left to join some other guys from WA (muggles). Realized this one was there as well so off we chuffed again to get it. Great views from here but too overcast for picturesque sunsets both evenings we were here. TFTC

09-Apr-13
In town for work but with a bit of free time in the afternoon of course I went looking for a few caches. I've been up here before, the views are great.

Cheers

21-Jun-12
Spent the day seeing the sights around Alice Springs grabbing caches along the way.

Great view of town up here. Very Happy

25-May-12
What a fabulous view from up here... Visited on a chilly Alice day in May

12-May-12
Noticed this spot when we first arrived and figured we'd probably be coming up here once we booked in and started caching. Thanks, a busy spot.

10-Aug-11
Yesterday the views from this lookout were restricted by the heavy smoke from burning off. This morning was perfect - great views of "The Alice". We found two survey markers p pictures of both provided.

27-Jul-11
Another nice day in Alice.
Photo of the trig marker attached.

17-Jun-11
Certainly some pretty good views from this one. I wonder if the obvious feature is intended at the TP, or the survey mark thing a few metres away? Only had the iPhone to cache with this trip so it doesn't really show the GPS screen I had up.

13-Jul-10
Found during our trip to Coober Pedy, Uluru, Kings Canyon and Alice Springs for the holidays.

31-Oct-09
Impressive views, TFTC

12-Oct-09
In the spirit of previously visited spots I was here on 10/7/08. Albida

06-Oct-09
obvious find. GPS said 46feet off, but took picture right next to marker.
Cheers.

20-Sep-09
Can't get much more straight forward than this - walk right up to the most obvious landmark and you're there!

Beautiful at sunset (though it can get a little crowded)

02-Sep-09
WanderingAus wandered by during a "climatic refugee" trip, sightseeing with The WanderingMrs (aka SWMBO) on our way out of Alice Springs, and found this Survey Mark on a pillar, and another a couple of metres away on the ground, at the top of Anzac Hill.

I rate this a Difficulty 1 Terrain 1 cache, and if there was a GAFF rating of 0 this would deserve it. I didn't do a "GoTo" on the Magellan Explorist and I didn't do a "Navigate To" on the TomTom, but when the pillar appeared in front of me I checked for a cache, and there it was.

This is a great spot to watch the sunset from, and is one of the most stunning spots for a War Memorial I've found.

*Recommended* *Overall Experience: 3* *FTF*
