Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

My mate the nozy asked me if I wanted to ride shotgun while he drove up past Nagambie to for a quick job, so who am I to pass up an opportunity for shenanigans?

I picked up a couple of smileys by Kirwan's Bridge to occupy my time, then we came back to town. So of course I made sure we stopped for a couple of happy snaps.

I also talked him into walking up a hill. He'll forgive me... eventually. Very Happy

Today was my first non-work trip to Melbourne for quite a long time so it was an opportunity to detour off the normal route and search for a few caches.

I've been wanting to find this cache for a few years and having driven past a few times a week most weeks for two years was proving to be very frustrating...Not really suitable country for a 57 seat bus. It is, however, quite suitable country for a Prado and it was great to head uphill, albeit a small hill, for a change. Trig Point spotted after a 200m stroll through the bush and signing the log for a nearby GC cache.

#GA2597 - 11:25; After a few days in Melbourne visiting the geoaunt in hospital and the geostudent, it was time to head north for home again. It was quite a nice day and with plenty of time up my sleeve, I decided a couple of short detours from the highway would relieve some of the boredom and keep me alert for the long solo drive. After a disappointing DNF on a now deceased trig and collecting a couple of GC caches along the way, I had already picked up one of my target caches for today in Kilmore, when I spotted this trig on the map and decided that it wasn't too far off my intended route to make an additional detour. Managed to find the way in and up the hill towards GZ on a partly paved road. Turned around at the tower and parked not too far from GZ and began the stroll to the top. The trig was hidden behind a small tree from the angle of approach, but I spotted it as I got closer. Grabbed a snap and headed off again. Didn't have any of the nearby GC caches loaded for this trip, so perhaps I'll need to come back again one day! TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

A wonderful view from up here. So close to where I spent my childhood, having attended the Tabilk State Schhool, it was fun to come geocaching up here. There are three caches in the vicinity and the trig point is a bonus
I'm not in the photo as I was taking it with my iPad, but second shot shows our coordinates at the top.
Thanks for bringing me here, another find I can log for States of the Nation competition.
