Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I needed to get out and stretch the legs so with Lazarus we selected a couple of caches to do in the hills. We parked up near the road and then walked up the track to make our first find on the way to the trig point. We needed to cut through the bush at one stage as I had taken the wrong track. Luckily the area was a fairly open wooded area and we only had 120m to travel up the hill. A little further in I spotted the final destination and pointed out the rocky top of the hill. Going as far as we could on the Bibbulmun track we then stepped off the track into parrot bush, Oh joy upon joy. This was shortly followed by the climb up rock to the top and the trig point. We spotted the rock cairn fairly quickly but had a little trouble locating the trig. In the end all we could find was a metal pin embedded in concrete near the cairn. We enjoyed the views while having a snack before making the return trip. Spotted a large mob of kangaroos on the way back and took some photos of the wildflowers and some mushrooms.

Out caching with geo-buddy on a sunny winter's day, break after much welcome rain. Entered off Albany Hwy, but immediately confronted by large puddle, so parked car and walked Bibbulmun Track the 5+ km each way. Made one small error, following road & fence-line south, missing marker ahead; just mild bush bash before back on track. Roughly 550m to go, were confronted by real challenge ahead of us, sight of steep hill. Now, which route to take? Not wanting to carry my jacket up the hill, looked for somewhere safe to place it, with aim to collect on way down; hhheddy points, low-and-behold a tree with a nail sticking out of it, how convenient! Now off the track and confronted by parrot bush and small thorn bushes; so so glad I thought to bring my gloves! Once through that, good news was open rock-face; bad news incline varies between 20-50 degrees! Certainly do not want to be here when it rains, could get slippery. The small rock cairn was obvious, but not so the tiny remains of old survey marker close by. Took in the nice view, then "what goes up must come down" back to the car, passing by a group of kangaroos. Nice enjoyable day!

Found this trig point on an end to end hike along the Bibbulmun track. There's a geocache located only about 20m away GC3TX34 - Boonerring Bibbulmun Blues. Excellent views from the trig.
