Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

#GA1506 - 16:20; Day 16 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune, albida33 and fitzy_1965. The Mega was now done and dusted and we were headed north again. The plan for the day was to reach Tennant Creek, caching along the way. We had not long passed through Wycliffe Well when we stopped off for a short walk through the scrub to take a shot of this trig. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1374. Found during Day 6 of my epic 21 day visit to Alice Springs for the Red Centre Experience Event and further travels after that.

Flew into Alice Springs and met up with my fellow intrepid team members Sol de Lune, Albida33 and LuckyL10n for the start of an amazing trip throughout the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and eventually back to Canberra. The Red Centre Experience is the main attraction of course, but also on our agenda are a lot of GC Caches, lots of trigs, as well as plenty of GCA Trads, History and Virtual Caches (and maybe the odd beer or two ??!! Smile. Go Clan Cerberus !

Another trig for the trip. We were heading north up 'the track' with a list of possible trigs to get to, and we managed to walk to this one. Photo taken. Then it was back in the car and off to the next one !

Another trig added to the dragonZone list. I really enjoy finding trigs and also the new CORS that are popping up everywhere !

TFTC !!

Heading north with fitzy_1965, LuckyL10n and Albida33 and we parked on the side of the road and took the short walk through the undergrowth to GZ. Once there, the full size trig was soon spotted.

Heading south with geovan in tow we stopped to grab the required snap. An actual trig which was a nice find.

11-Aug-15
Could see this one as we approached from the North. Climbed through a fence and then crossed the beautiful burnt orange soil and were soon at GZ. Several cattle were close by and we hoped they weren't the curious kind. Thanks.
