Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

puff puff, Lovely day for mountain biking, trig found ok, thanks.

24-Dec-17
So worth the effort...but aren't all trigs worth the effort.

23-Dec-17
Found on a trip to ACT with alnic39, teamMerlin and Splitty Miller JJCC. Al brought along his mountain bike which came in handy a few times but mainly for the return journey as he road down to get the car while we only had to walk to the nearest exut point to NSW side of the trail. Thanks for the trig. Picture attached as required. Getting tired now it was a hot day lucky we brought plenty of water needed it a lot. I don't think any of us had the energy left to get closer. Back to the cars now mainly down

28-Jul-17
Visited this trig on the Canberra Centenary Trail. Got as close as I could before I was stopped by locked gates and "trespassers will be prosecuted" signs. Very Happy

19-Jun-16
I sloshed along the track, which was more creek in places, on this very wet day and was able to log five trigs. The views were not much though with the misty conditions.

20-Feb-16

22-Mar-15
Ribbit After camping along the Centenary trail, we continued to Mulligan's flat this morning. Passed the trig point and couldn't help but take a photo just in case close enough was good enough. Seems it is for this one! Ribbit

21-Mar-15
Partook in the CBR100 challenge so got this on the way. Saw it while in training but considering all the private property do not enter signs figured it wasn't gettable. When I finally did look online I found I was sorely mistaken. Well I got it this time anyway.

13-Mar-15
I was out cycling a leg of the Centenary Trail this morning, picked up a few caches and a trig point along the way. Well, as close as one can get to the trig point without getting in to trouble...

GCA 1,000 - 9,741.

Here we are - My 1,000th GCA cache find !

I first visited this Trig region in December 2008 when doing the GC Cache 'Northern sentinel : Mulligan's bunker' - I remember not wanting to cross onto private property so admired from a distance. Next visit was August 2009 when doing Sol's 'Just for the Views'. Both visits were before I started doing GCA caches.

Today I was doing my first walk along this part of the Centenary Trail and I knew this was an appropriate cache for my 1,000th !

I imagine it won't be my last visit ! Lol...

TFTC !!

09-Aug-14
Found today on a walk along the Centenary Trail from Mulligans Flat to Hall with the Canberra Bushwalk Club. Great to see some trigs out here. TFTC Very Happy

09-Aug-14
Found on a cold morning out this way. I am so sorry - I didn't realise until I got back home that this was listed as a trig. I visited the closest gate to the trig as we were passing through towards the Centenary Campsite. Despite this, I do not have a photo. Nice little place in the bush. TFTC GCA!

18-Jul-14
Got as close as we could while wandering around in the area.

02-Mar-14
We passed this point on a little trek up the centenary trail. We couldn't get close as the trig point is on private property. So we took a photo from long distance.

25-Feb-14
Fund on a beatiful morning Cache walk in the area.

31-Dec-13
#GA109 - 09:45; I was passing this trig point while walking along the Centenary Trail with Sol de Lune while we collected some recent GC caches along this end of said trail. Couldn't get right up to the trig, which is on private land, so the long distance shot will have to suffice. Great views from up here too. TFTC GA Very Happy

30-Dec-13
Found with jusojara on a walk to grab a few caches on the Centenary trail

30-Dec-13
Walking this part of the Centenary Trail today with mr_roo and we stopped to grab this trig now that you can get close to it. Great views from up here - TFTT

21-Dec-13
Now that the Centenary trail is completed - you can get to within 200m of this trig Very Happy - So I did!

Parked at the car park of Mulligans Flat reserve and followed the fenceline up the hill to the end of the reserve and the closest point to the Trig. A pleasant sunny afternoon walk.

10-Oct-11
Out this side town and headed up to try this trig.

Photo is from a distance as it certainly seems like private property over the fence. But hey, so is the one near Fyshwick and we can still take a photo of it. No probs that I can see...

Today was a really windy day to attempt this trig. The weather was blowing in from the Snowies freezing cold but no rain. We had intended to go Namadgi cycling but woke up slow and enjoyed breakfast.
Instead we came out here to explore a new part of Canberra to us.

Lean hard and take the photo.

11-Apr-11
I've checked the Hall 8727-4S map and the Mulligans Flat map on the ACT TAMs website and this trig appears to be on private land. It's certainly not within Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve so I suggest we archive it unless someone can confirm otherwise. Shame on you

This trigs approach is nothing like the photos from the previous visitors back in June! I came visiting very late at night, cycling part way and then leaving my bike on the trail and heading a straight line to the trig. There is a 100m radius circle of chest high thorns surrounding the hill. By the time I realised I was 50 meters in and just had to fight through getting rather scratched up on the way.
At the trig I did my best at a night photo with my phone and I visited the communications tower.
Then came the problem. I couldn't find a way out of the thorns! I was completely surrounded and I couldn't find my original entry point. Eventually I found that following the fence line gave a reasonable access path out. I followed the fence line on a longer but easier track back to the trail and my bike.

14-Jun-10
An early morning walk in -5C to get a few trigs on the northern ACT border. Couldn't resist getting the trig as well. The ground was very crunchy underneath the boot.

17-Jan-10
This was a bit further off the track than I expected, but I got a short visit to NSW out of it. Albida.
