Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Back in the area again as I head to Murrayville to do the Border Track with family and friends. Had a couple of Adventure Labs on my radar today but then detoured via some ‘roads less travelled’, letting my GPS be my guide. Dancing
Thanks for the Trig Point and for bringing me here. I have seen many wonderful sights and taken many photos around this fantastic area. Does it get any better than travelling this great land of ours?? Coffee, caches and photographs.
Always a lovely area to look around and some historic and interesting Points of Interest about. Clapping

#GA1941 - 09:20; Day three of a caching mission to Victoria with Sol de lune. After collecting more than 100 finds yesterday, today's mission is to travel west through Ararat, Stawell, Horsham, Dimboola and Nhill to Bordsertown, then on to Naracoorte and Mount Gambier before returning to Creswick via Lake Bolac, caching along the way. This was another quick find in Horsham. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

We found it!!!!! After our streak of bad luck in naracoorte. Smile

14-Aug-12
This was our last morning caching in Bendigo before making our way back to Adelaide via Horsham and Francis caching along the way. Wasnt a bad total with 45 finds for the day. Could have been more but had some trouble early with DNF's on micros.

Quick photo as we headed through town. TFTC. Big Grin

Nice easy TP. Fencing prevents getting close enough, just a long distance photo.

13-Mar-12
An easy find on our way from Murray Bridge to Ballarat. Good place to stop and have a break. TFTC

25-Feb-12
We were in Horsham for the fire brigade state junior championships and had a couple of spare hours to chase some caches. Along the way we spotted this TP and snapped a quick photo.

28-Oct-11
Found by Roma and Max.
Recorded this one on our way to Mildura.
Not uncommon to find these throughout the wheat belt!
Still haven't worked out how to include the GPSr in the image when using it's own camera option!

29-Jul-11
Found on the return trip to Adelaide from Sydney. A bit hard not to see this one. A photo from as close as I could get with the TP in the photo.

12-Jun-11
A quick "find" (if you can call it that as you can see it from almost everywhere). Photo to follow. TFTTP

01-May-11
Found this one by looking up , not able to get close enough to touch, but as close as we could Mr. Green

20-Mar-11
This one was our first trig point. I knew it was there but I've always done traditional caches not trig points. This is going to bring a whole lot more to our caching experience.

07-Mar-11
Wow excellent to see the trig from anywhere.. Thanks.

06-Mar-11
From the nearby railway overpass I could clearly see the trigpoint Smile
How close could I get Shocked
Would I be able to touch it, stroke its sleek black lines Question
Or would I just have to be satisfied with a quick (non-telephoto) piccy of me and the trigpoint sitting upon high Question
Option number 2 won !! Clapping

03-Mar-11
Although there were steps up the water tower, a cyclone wire fence prevented us from getting up closer to the survey marker.

07-Dec-10
Visited this one before heading back to Melbourne. It would be good if you could climb to the top

29-Oct-10
Located today while clearing up Horsham.

Photo to follow

29-Aug-10
Couldnt climb it so took a shot as we did a driveby

22-Jun-10
I love this trig - you have to be at the right distance to actually see it but its a beauty. Photos not much good as it was just on dusk.

14-Apr-10
Found this one just before the sun went down.

26-Dec-09
Found this one but thought it wiser not to climb a chained and barbed fence to get the photo. You don't see many trig points in the middle of a town, let alone ontop of a water tower. But then again there are not too many hills around here.
