Description

Budginigi TS 1217 - A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I told myself that I would do this another time, but when I was at the AL at the pub, I looked at the hill in the distance and thought it was worth at least checking it out. My joke is that all terrain ratings need to be halved if I can get to it. I'm not going to halve it, but I will bring it down a point.
When I got to the top, the was a young couple up there with their 2 toddler sons. More proof that it is not a terrain 4.
What you do get up here is a great view in every direction.

Came here for a GC which was unsuccessful so went up the hill for the GCA cache. Quite a challenge to get up there.

25-Nov-18
Tough walk, or that might depend on the route found. Magnificent views. TFTC.

16-Sep-16
short muddy and slippery slope. Fantastic views especially of an over-full lake Hume.

10-Jul-16
This little hill has been on my to climb list all year and it was well worth the lunch time trip. The views are magnificent after a ten minute clamber to the top. Our outing was cool, cloudy and surprisingly clear and the walk reasonably slushy and slippery. The rock, the trees, the lichen gardens and the panorama all made the exploration worthwhile.

Made the climb on this hot day to find the GC unknown, which depends on knowing this trig. The trig is in good nick and obviously gets a lick of paint when needed. Fantastic panorama here.
This TS was surveyed on 7 December 1976 but nothing was found. The surveyor noted "No ground mark found" and "No Cairn Mast or Vanes found." Nine days later, another surveyor noted "No Beacon". The pillar and nameplate were placed on March 19, 1977 and surveyed two days later. It was designated as "GS 1217".

Up here for another cache, but couldn't resist the opportunity to mark a trig off the list, and of course, it was also the best spot to stop and admire the 360 degree views.

Steep rocky climb to the top and to the trig point. The name plate had been removed unfortunately. I climbed the Bowna Waters side of the mount. Little campfire at the peak under the trig point, the builders will no doubt have been impressed with the awesome view from there. No distinct walking track to the summit. Probably best attempted with a mate.

Found on our trip around Albury on our way to the Cache and Camp event around Yack, but decided to brave the grass seeds and get up here to the trig, found with Albida and mr roo, not too much of a hike up through the new estate

A short detour and up a hill and we were at this trig. Lovely views of the full lake. Great to see

Visited this location purely on spec after finding the cache at the nearby Ettamough Pub. The trig is in a reserve through which passes the Hume & Hovell Walking track. There were scattered showers & I got quite wet. Found a safe way to the top via some well eroded granite. Kangas were scattering. Pleased I took the opportunity.
