Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Up in the Barossa today for most of the day but had enough spare time to make a little detour to Long Hill and find this trig point
Missed all the rain squalls that came through and even got a patch or two of blue sky to improve the view from GZ a little Mr. Green
Cheers

#GA1445 - 16:40; Day 4 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune. We are now headed from Barmera to Burra via Overland Corner, Waikerie, Blanchetown and Morgan plus a few other smaller towns. After wrapping up for the day, the GPSr took us on a rather circuitous route to this trig to finish the day for me. Made it okay in the end to grab a couple of snaps before heading on to Burra for a couple of nights. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

For the perfect first day of spring, headed out for a day/night of caching in the Barossa Valley and beyond with honeysucker and locus cache. A great day out and some good numbers for the day/night. Smile

Managed a photo at sunset Very Happy

Always nice to find a cache that swings both ways! As stated by others the trig is about 5 metres behind the fence. Couldn’t position my camera to take a photo of me today, as nothing to rest the camera on, so the GPSr will have to do!

found at 1026 one of 36 for the day! tftc

As per other logs, we didn't go inside the fence, but we were close enough to the trig point anyway. Thanks for setting up the locationless cache.

16-Oct-09
Easily located on the way to a couple of other caches in the area. Stopped just short of the trig so as not to trample the thriving grain crop.

07-Oct-09
Found with Margieh just as the sun was setting. Did not go right to the Trig Point as was located just inside the fence line of Private Property but still close enough.

07-Oct-09
Found this Trig Point while doing another cache at the same location... The trig point is located just inside the fence-line by a few metres so didn't enter property to get a photo but have taken one just outside the fence-line.... It is not considered in a dangerous or inaccessible location....
