Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Wonderful vantage point

I parked in Frangipani Drive and climbed the sandy hill. It was only on the descent that I noticed the sealed, and empty, car park near the top of the hill. Tables and chairs have been set up next to the trig. TFTC.

I flew from Broome to Perth for a work trip which will also take me to Derby. I arrived around lunch time and eventually when my luggage arrived i headed over to grab a hire car. I then headed off to the resort and got settled in here. I decided to do some sightseeing and some caching for GA and GC caches. The closest one was a trig about 200 metres away so around the corner and parked up and trekked up the sandy hill and soon had the trig at my foot. What an outstanding view over Broome and surrounds. I trekked back down the hill and headed over to Cable Beach after stopping for a train - Camel train that is. Grabbed a few caches here then headed off out to Gauntham Point for some sightseeing and grabbed the LIghthouse here as well. Eventually i made it back into town all beit getting dark and grabbed the last remaining caches both GA and GC.

The trig point cache was an easy find and thanks for bringing me here Geocaching Australia. Well worth stopping by here just for the views. ClappingClappingClan Griffin

Only remains of the previous logger's chair sighting. Only the trig marker itself, and no signs remain. Fabulous viewpoint though. Thanks for the cache!

The Big Western Australia trip in 2018. Day 19. I drove down to Broome early to go on an afternoon cruise, but that was cancelled due to wind, so caching kept me busy all day until I finished at sunset on Cable Beach.

I found an empty block below the hill and followed a well worn path up to a nice hill top with table and chairs to go with the trig.

Thanks

#GA68 - 06:40; Having cleared all of the GC caches in the area, decided to clear a couple of GA caches on a final swing through before heading home later in the morning. Bit of a slog up the sand hill, but worth the effort. Located the sign and part of the old trig marker which is riddled with bullet holes. TFTC GA Very Happy

This was another hard slog up a sandhill. Once near GZ we were able to find the official Survey Marker on a star-picker and some remnants of the full trig marker installation (some metal struts, pads of concrete which anchored the structure). TFTC

Found it! Well, I found the remains anyway....
Parked in the nearby street and found a pathway to the top of the hill through a vacant block. Fantastic view over Cable Beach and the Broome area from the top.
The given coordinates was marked with a sign on a star picket stating that there was a Survey Mark located _____ metres from here on a bearing of ____ . I had a little look but couldn't find any obvious markers nearby. What was apparent still was the concrete foundation and fallen remains of the collapsed tripod of the trig point. Well worth a visit for the view alone!
