Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

A day of caching in and around Canberra, the weather is still great, but I feel my legs from yesterday so mostly easy ones today.

#GA5665 - 08:30; Out on a morning mission to Cooleman Ridge to collect a nearby multi, so grabbed a snap of the trig once I reached the summit. Nice to finally make it up here to claim a find on this one, which has been on to 'to do' list for too long! TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

16-Oct-21
I was up here with a great group of friends grabbing GC caches and wasveryhappy to see this one. TFTT Geocaching Australia

22-Apr-19
Met a bunch of hill runners while walking up to this one.

29-Sep-18
Came up here for a nice walk, and a GC cache on the next hill, and noticed thus trig - I think I have been here at least once before, and taken selfies with the trig (in fact I think this is where I got carried away and took selfies lying down with my face in among the hardenbergia flowers Smile
This time I am sitting here on a rock beside the trig (the one in the foreground of my photo), doing my log (in the app on my phone), before I forget to log again - lol

25-Aug-18
Nice family walk up here on this beautiful day and off course we came past the trig and happy to collect it.

31-Jul-18
Was in the area focusing on a multi-cache which brought me straight to this trig! Awesome Smile
Decided I may as well take a snap of myself with it and add it to the slow going collection of trigs that I remember to photograph!
Pic attached, thanks GA

Great spot, lovely day. thanks

F(H)ound It! @ 1:20 PM

I was so busy counting my steps for a multi cache that I didn't notice the short steep climb to the TRIG.
I've been here before and I'm sure I'll be here again. It will be beautiful when the hardenbergia is out.

CAT located at base of trig point, (malnourished), white with black/dark brown/caramel markings. Last seen Dec 4th at approximately 8:00pm. Thought it may be a feral cat due to hissing and growling on approach but I sat with it and could pat and rub under it's chin. Seems to be a long lost pet. HELP!!! IF PEOPLE COULD KEEP AN EYE OUT AND/OR GO TO THE EFFORT TO TRAP IT IN A BOX AND TAKE IT TO RSPCA WESTON. (I believe RSPCA or TAMS provide a box, normally used to trap wild cats). Pray

A nice view over Canberra from here.

19-Sep-16
First time I have been up here. Enjoyed the walk and the views.

29-Mar-16
Another great vantage point with great views around Canberra. I walked up from Monkman St and the track was quite steep but was well formed with steps along the way. This is another area that is part of the Canberra Nature Park and well worth a visit while in Canberra.

09-Feb-16
A well prepared track with pamphlets at the start and numbered points of interest. The view from the trig is great. An easy and pleasant walk.

09-Jan-16
First time up here for the littlest trigbagger

02-Nov-15
It's all about the Trig (and Paris Bear).
This photo, July 2015 on a cold blustery Sunday morning. Fogged in, could bearly Wink see a thing.
Next photo October 2015, worthwhile views over Weston Creek and the Ranges.
Go walking up here a lot.
Thanx GA for including Trigs as loggable caches, as Trig walks are what got me into Geocaching in the first place

23-Sep-15
I like trigs. They are easy to find and unlikely to go missing. This one was no different.

05-Sep-15
Visited here a few weeks ago. Fantastic views from here.

31-May-15
Couldn't spot this one from where I had been walking earlier in the day and was frustrated when it appeared on the horizon and I thought I would miss it today. Then came the multi which provided me with the extra opportunity and here's the photo for the find! TFTT

06-Feb-15
Found with SDL whilst on a nearby adventure. Very green views for the middle of summer

19-Apr-14
Headed here after seeing a man about a shed...nice walk.

05-Jul-13
I was up here today and grabbed this trig. Unfortunately, my phone no longer can upload photos but I will get one with my digital camera next time I am here. I was trying for the nearby cache when I got this one. Great views!

30-Apr-13
Grabbed a pic while up here on a "bootcamp". Loved the views!

11-Feb-13
I came up past this Trig today on a walk with CBC around Cooleman Ridge with mate Knuddo. Beautiful evening for a walk.

13-Jul-12
Walked around the whole ridge and Mt arawang to get here. Nice hide

01-May-12
I already have the trig at the other end of the ridge.
Capturing this one is long over due.

14-Feb-12
GCA 469 - 4873. A couple of finds this afternoon.

I spotted this Trig when I was in the area yesterday and realised I hadn't grabbed it as a GCA find. Today I did the short climb up to rectify that.

TFTC !!

Have been up here before walking but never logged this trig, so popped by to snap it. A short steep climb up from Monkman St and was there. Terrific views as usual from here.

27-Jul-11
Hmmm, spotted a "nature reserve closed to the public" sign, but took no notice of it. Hmm odd.

Decided that my knee is possibly going to kill me if i walk up one more hill to get one more god damn trig. I would of gone mental if i did the multi!
Nice and pretty views made it worthwhile Smile

28-Jun-11
Last cache found this afternoon before soccer training. Cool view and area. A little hard walk up the hill but ok. TFTC. Clapping

21-May-11
It was a beautiful morning to go caching and Jim and I had never walked this ridge before, so perfect opportunity to go and visit the trig too. We passed horses and people, and saw them on the way back too. Views were amazing! TFTT Smile

14-Apr-11
Last one I managed to sneak in for the day.

18-Jul-10
I made my way up the back of this slope to access the GZ. Nice view but no time for the nearby puzzle today.

06-Jun-10
Found today with mr_roo while doing Spymaster Bootcamp. Luckily we decided not to walk to this Trig from a nearby cache as Spymaster brought us up here.

10-May-10
I thought I was clever in doing 'spymaster bootcamp' guessing that it would pass this trig. This did occur I just couldn't find GZ! At least i could find the trig....

25-Apr-10
Great climb, Fantastic views....

GeoHound is very happy in this picture Smile

18-Apr-10
Found the Trig on 11 November 2009. Beauty view Thanks.

19-Feb-10
A nice visit on a fairly sunny day a few days after a good rain here in Canberra. Everything was lovely and green and a good view over the southern suburbs. Worth visiting.

19-Feb-10
one of the trigs I have visited many times even as a muggle, before SatNavs

10-Jan-10
Mrs Winglen was very understanding - thank you - and walked up here with the new dog and me. It was going to be a very warm day and starting it off with the bit up from Chapman was a great heart starter and had the sweat pouring of me in rivulets.

Been up here a number of times but may wait until a cooler day to return again.

TFTC and the not very cool eh mon trig (probably work better if I was Jamaican)

10-Jan-10
Up early to beat the heat - another day of 37 deg predicted. Found this with McPhan as he took his new pooch for a walk.

06-Dec-09
One of 7 trigs in the area logged this morning! Nice views! Pic attached - as per normal.

03-Nov-09
Found this while cleaning out the ridge with mr roo and mtrax.

05-Oct-09
In the spirit of previously visited spots I was here on 20/11/08. Albida

20-Sep-09
Have been here many many times. I actually have a cache about 10 metres from the trig itself. Logging now as I plan to visit as many of the ACT trigs as possible.

I Agree with Squirrels comments below (+ a few extra comments of my own)

From now on, I will definitely be carrying a camera at every trig point I visit. I really support the introduction of TrigPoint "caches" because there are usually great views from such highpoints and it is particularly applicable in certain parks.

When I first started caching, I often didn't carry a camera, (Digital cameras did not exist)and visited many trigs whilst caching. I also visited many trigs BEFORE geocaching even existed, when I was riding my Mountain bike/s in the 1990's, so all recent finds.

However, whether the thought police like it or not, I intend to claim every trig that I visited since starting caching at the end of 2001. As evidence, I will either post the photo if I have one, or reference the cache that I visited nearby, or name another cacher who can vouch for me being there.

No photo for this one - but I visited this trig on 4/11/2008 when I visited the "Spymaster Bootcamp" cache.

Found with Nork and Mtrax Great views

26-Apr-09
This was not my first visit to this trig, but I have decided to use my waymarking log to record my visit: It was getting late & was absolutely freezing & blowing a gale by the time I got up here today - I even had to get my gloves out for the first time this year for the return journey - so taking photos was a challenge.
