Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Logs

06-Oct-19
Found this a while ago on a Wednesday walk from Honeysuckle Creek. I met a couple teachers from the grammar school who were looking for rock climbing sites and we explored the ridge finding many spectacular rock outcrops. I only collected a couple of caches but there were lots of great views.

06-Apr-19
Hiking up here with the family Dino and I went to get the trig shortly after arrival.

02-Jan-17
Out this way with Relish64 for some exercise and some caching. A nice easy Namadgi Trig was soon spotted and photographed.

27-Aug-16
Up here today to grab a few caches, and the trig point was right at the carpark! Interesting construction, haven't seen one like that before.

12-Jun-16
Walked up from the campsite with the Scouts and grabbed this trig on the way back after lunch overlooking the Orroral Valley. I can't believe this has gone 4 years without a find Shocked

29-Sep-12
Was at Honeysuckle for a scout function, and got there slightly too early, so thought i'd knock this one off the list.
Little known fact/discovery - you can get pretty good phone reception up here (telstra) compared to the campground!!

Had to resort to the gps to guide me to this one, which i was a bit confused about, mainly because i didnt really read the listing before i set off (Shhhh) so it shocked me to see a different sort of 'trig'

Just realized i can claim Unloved Caches - Trig Points - 12 months unfound as no one has logged this since May last year. Comeon, it's probably the easiest trig point in all of Namadgi! (says the one who's never been there until today!)

Like all the others it seems, we've been to this carpark many times but never taken in the trig. Cute photo of Mrs Winglen doing a Mr foo impersonation, but it looks more like a trig with a hat!

283. Just before heading off to 300 Spartans there is one near the carpark that needs doping and this is it. Not much of a view from here but it is a good launching area for some great views.

TFTC and the nerple.

I think I have parked in this carpark at least 5 times and this is the first time I have noticed this trig. I love this part of the park it is a great spot. A good drive up trig that can entice people to some easy to get to caches. Laughing

27-Mar-11
What an amazing find! I've been up here about 5 or 6 times before and never noticed it either. As I moved through the trees I was expecting the remnants of an old ruined trig, but was surprised to find the concrete pillar that is the done thing in this area. Oh, and I also introduced DoppleFrog to trig points.

26-Feb-11
Haven't been out for a while, so tody, with a few other back down the road, made my way top to car park and then had 32 metre to the trig.
There the sort of trig walks that we like.

Cool spot, as we well know.

19-Oct-10
Lovely morning stroll up the fire trail. Saw three young wild dog pups along the way. They didn't stop to chat.

14-Jun-10
This is our first family trip to Namadgi and we had an excellent day caching. Nice to find a trig on our travels (that we didn't have to climb to).

23-Feb-10
First log for a day of adventure along the Namadgi ridgeline.
it was an early start with a brisk and cool wind but the day warmed up fast but was comfortable. Photo will follow soon.

06-Dec-09
Final of 7 trigs found in the ACT today - nice spot!

05-Dec-09
Found this one quickly with Albida, can see this one from the road if you look the right position. Nice area TFTC

Mr_roo and I were heading along the ridge, so this was a logical place to start. Thanks.

Well I never - I have been up here so many times and never seen this interesting historic pillar amongst some wonderful funky rocks. Geocaching rocks!

Yep, that concrete trig pint IS there. Popped in after my epic trek out to the Cotter Hut area, was pretty much where I expected. Views are beginning to be quite obscured now due to the trees regrowing.

Hmmm - checked out the waymarking pic, had a close look using GE, it could only be hiding behind a Large rock beside the carpark open area - certainly out of view. I can't definitively say that concrete thing is not there, as it is just off where you park, walk, rest, lock up bike etc.

Hold this space.......

This listing at waymarking suggests there is a point of some description.

20-Sep-09
Nope, never has been a trig here, there used to be a Collimation tower on the extensive flat top area, but in 30yrs, I've never seen a trig point.

I don't ever remember seeing a trig point at this location.

Does anybody else?
