Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

That took a bit of hunting around, being so EARLY in the morning. Finally found the Trig Point Survey Marker at 0148 (yep, about 10 to TWO in the morning), Tuesday, 29 May. I had come to Adelaide for a conference relating to theatre nurses, an still had another week of holidays before returning to work, so spent a bit of time getting some trigs and a bunch pf Waymarks
Got a photo on my mobile, which turned out quite good.

Beautiful day for a climb up u great, huge lump of granite!
The views, as always are definitely worth the effort to get to the top of the bluff. Surprisingly quiet here today, I thought after the last few days of rough weather the break may have tempted a few more tourists to visit, but obviously I was wrong as I had the entire area to myself Mr. Green
Cheers, It was a nice way to get some morning exercise

quick find after the big slog up the hill, but the view and sea breeze were worth it, absolutely stunning. thanks for the cache.

17-Aug-16
Late this afternoon we headed up Rosetta Head to look for this trig point. It was a steep but short walk with magnificent views from the top. The trig point was a quick find. The tripod is no longer in place (only the footings are in place) but the brass survey marker was found easily. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: Mrs y'stassie standing in the middle of the concrete footings and directly above the brass disk; a close view of the brass survey marker disc.

A great view in all directions.
Lots of people around in the area (school holidays).

Hard slog for an aged pensioner but worth the effort.

29-Dec-15
Needed a walk after a big(ish) lunch with the family. So headed out for a walk and to take in some of the views. A good place to view the surrounds and to take a break (and have a drink). Very Happy

Not sure about the joggers who decided that was the way to do the Bluff. But each to their own...

An uphill walk is always worth the effort when you can get three smileys out of it. Thanks, a busy place today with lots of muggles enjoying the area.

Grabbed along with the nearby Earthcache and Trad... was a bit of a climb since I didn't use the path. Should do that next time....

16-Sep-10
We've been up here nearly five years ago for a Traditional cache, and we returned today, mainly for the Earthcache at this landmark. The tripod may no longer be here, but the three concrete pads that it was once anchored to still remain. Always a great location to revisit.

15-Jun-10
Picked this one up as we were completing the earthcache and nearby traditional.

01-Mar-10
Found this trig point while coming to Victor Harbour for a work meeting. Came up here at about 8.20pm with descending darkness and a gale force wind that made walking quite unsteady. The trig station no longer exists but the bronze trig marker can be found in the ground (as shown in photo. Also got the earthcache here and 1 other traditional in the area. Would be great views if coming here during the day.

23-Jan-10
Picked up this one while completing the earthcache here.

14-Oct-09
Found on the Keeping Ahead Tour 2009.
Found the disc on our way to another cache nearby.
