Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Found on the morning after spring break. Drove right up, views somewhat disrupted by cloud. Found the nearby cache also. Pics to follow.

Did a drive by on this one after staying at Thomas Hill for Spring Break - even after all the rain the tracks were in excellent condition

Now I did do this by MTB and let's just say it most definitely isn't easy. Maybe it was the steep hills on the way, maybe it was the fact I'd already done around 12km riding up and down said steep hills prior to this.

Fantastic views from here, the sort that a mere photo just can't capture on its own. Pity the weather wasn't clear otherwise it would've been awesome!

At least riding down from here was fun - managed to clock 46km/hr on the way back. Much fun!

Found while on a walk around the park doing a few other caches in the area. It's a bit of a hike to reach here, so I tend to agree that the terrain is a bit low - I'll crank it up by half a star, and the difficulty down by half a star (how hard is it to take a photo of a trig point?).

Fantastic views from the peak, and I think I need to get a mountain bike to make the best of this terrain.

This cache caused me a lot of misery - I arrived to find that I'd left the SD card out of my camera, but luckily I had a PDA with a card that I could swap over for some photos. Unfortunately when I got home and stuck the card in my computer, Windows in its infinite wisdom declared the folder to be corrupt and deleted it AARRRRGGGHH!! Fortunately linux and a program called foremost recovered the photos - I now owe the guys who wrote this app my eternal gratitude!

Found at 2pm. A very nice walk with outstanding views all around. I think that it rates a bit more than a 2 on the terain scale as it is very hilly having said that it is able to be reached by fire track and therefore MTBike I however walked in from the gate. Allow 2hrs return at least and you will have a brisk walk. If your not so fit give it a bit over 3hrs and you should make it back in the time allowed.
