Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache.

Track starts at S41 29.571  E146 21.185 which is the junction of Gog & Union Bridge Road. Any type of 4wd will get up with ease...otherwise you will have an approx. 0.5h walk on well graded track.

found... bit of a seamist type of day so not the best of views.

Have travelled here years ago for a different cache so knew where this one was. Got back down before the rain came down. Tftc

10-Jul-20
Found this one today while out caching in the gog range area.
After driving right up to the trigpoint the required photos were taken and then admired the view before searching for the 2 caches nearby.

Made the walk up here to get the GC cache, awesome views

08-Jan-20
An enjoyable drive to the top and super views! TFTTP!
Cheers,

Nice sunny Monday found us going for a stroll on the Gog Range. The lower slopes of Gog Hill have been harvested making for a bit of a desolate scene but the flip side was that you had views on the way up. Even better views from the top although a bit filtered towards the plateau.

Our time visiting Tasmania is nearly at an end.

Overnighting in Chudleigh we headed out to find a cache to continue our geostreak.

Beautiful day out around the Mersey Forest.

Great 4x4 drive but no challenge for the geocruiser.

04-Apr-15
Easy find for this one whilst we were up here logging the other two caches. TFTC.

01-Sep-13
"232/171" obtained from DPIW ListMap database and added to trig point name.

08-Aug-13
An easy to find trig point, but certainly no simple driveby.

Drove to within 150 metres of the site and quickly found this and the two nearby caches.

Thanks for the trig point which was found at 1005

Another caching day accompanied by Budgietas in the North West area.
I left home at 0500hrs, meeting up with the "flyer" at 0600hrs. I found 11 for the day while Budgie got 20 or 21. We got back to Budge's home at 2100hrs and I arrived back in Huonville an hour later.

"Gog Hill" was my fourth find for the day. The drive to within about 150 metres of the cache saved my legs for later in the day. We by-passed this cache and did "All Agog" first then trekked back to the trig claiming a find at 1005hrs. Great views! "Great hide!!"

Prior to this I had found "Chudleigh hut" and "State of the Union"; others found today were the remainder of the "Gog series", some of sirius Tas' new ones around the Wilmot River and a couple in Devonport.

Overall a long and in some places a hard day but very rewarding. We both scored on flip flop (leech) bite each in the Wilmot area; I even carried one in my clothing back to Turners Beach where it tried to attach to my hand. No blood in my alcohol stream - TeHeHe!
Thanks Budge for another great day.

TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

29-Jul-12
found and a lovely veiw from here Dancing

19-Nov-11
Our fifth find in the Follow TimTam and Swampy TTTBWECT.

We walked up this one as we didn't know the track and the start of it looked a little uninviting. As it turns out we would have been able to make it easily but still the walk was an enjoyable one.

19-Nov-11
Drove up to the top in the N-trailTB and it was nothing like the first time I was here in my van. There are some new drainage ditches across the track and fortunately the N-Trail was just able to negotiate these. We also spilt some drinks as the track is a lot rougher now.
Anyway, we made it up and got the required picture.

19-Nov-11
what a view

29-Oct-11
Not much of a view today as the weather had closed in, but I've been here before on a clear day and it's quite magnificent. TFTC.

22-Sep-11
Made it to the top in geocruiser low cloud cover obscured the view.

13-Jun-11
great views from here and day was very clear and quite a bit of snow was on the surrounding mountains. Razz

11-Jun-11
a great view, but road a bit washed away

30-Jan-11
A perfect day Cool for a walk to some fantastic views. The 4WD road up was quite washed out but posed no issues for walkers. Very Happy

21-Sep-10
Found this one twice. First on Saturday (we cleared the road of fallen trees) and again on Tuesday when I came back to retreive the camera tripod that had been left behind. Just need to work out how to attach the photos now. Very nice views from up here. Magic spot at dusk.

02-Sep-10
I was after some exercise and the walk up fitted the bill nicely Big Grin
Then an unbeatable bonus of perfect weather at the top with not a breath of wind, and that view!! Clapping
I think I am going a little crazy as I find myself talking to these trigs Shocked ... when I see them I get a little excited and call out "hello" and "Yay I found you" ... and Im getting the bug to find more...(think Sirius caught it before me) but they certainly suck you in Very Happy

Although the track/road was in relatively good condition, the relentless climb up the constant grade was demanding. It was, however, made palatable by the thought of three caches at the top. At one stage we walked about 150m along the track but got 30m further away from the caches. The view from the top was great despite the overcast skies and regular sleety showers - would be a magnificent vantage point on a clear day. The walk down was much less taxing. We certainly got our exercise today as we completed three caches. On balance, we were glad that we rose to the challenge. The trig point was the first significant thing we saw as we neared the top. 22-May-10
Found this one along with others in the area. Top fun.

07-Feb-10
Easy to find TFTC

17-Jan-10
Speccy views on a beautiful day

29-Dec-09
We drove to within a few metres of the TP in AWD Subaru Impreza. I wouldn't like to try it if it were wet and muddy, but the track was passable without doing any damage. There are a number of points that would allow an easy place to turn around if someone came part-way up and then changed their mind.

02-Nov-09
The CEyres first Trig cache, but definitely not the last. As expected this cache had commanding views of Northern Tasmania and is easily accessed. My 5 year old daughter walked up the hill fairly easily but fell asleep on the way down, she literally was too tired to walk....We spent a long time up here apart from finding the three caches, we came armed with maps and compasses and therefore planned a few more walks and caches. We were fortunate to have reasonably clear weather and were impressed by the cloud formation and collapse on nearby Mount Rolland. We assume a fire tower must have been here before the trig point....there is a lot of broken plate glass around and some solid looking foundations.

27-Oct-09
had been up here before and the view is still excellent, with three caches in close proximity its worth the trip although 4wd is required unless you like a good steepish walk.

25-Oct-09
Up here doing cache maintenance so thought I'd create this Trig cache to entice cachers up who tried to find my muggled cache 'Oh My Gog'.
For those who haven't been here before....there are now three caches to make your trip worthwhile. Always superb views from here. Obviously this isn't a FTF....so open to next cacher.
