Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Access via Buckneys Road off the Tasman Hwy at S41 10.590 E147 32.336

Park at the end in the sign posted carpark and PLEASE leave gates as found both on the way in and out. The track is well graded and should take less than 2 hrs return.

Thanks for the Trig.
An enjoyable walk up with a few stops to re-group, re-hydrate, and catch our breath!
Well worth it though, Trig in great order, a fantastic old cairn, and expansive and impressive views.

A top spot for a light lunch and discuss today's ups and downs.

Found with AlbyDangles, stainless-steel-rat, gooseandegg, whitewebbs, and Tassie Trekkers.
This is the third and final 'peak' of "the great 3 Peaks escapade" in the NE - Day2.

Cheers,
EPs.

After the walk to "Sunday Ride" we continued up to the trig point and had a nice chat with a couple from Queensland that we had run into at the cache location. They were not cacher's but knew all about it

After Mt Scott we had enough time to wander up this one as well before heading into Scottsdale to spend the night. Easy walk and nice views from the top. Excellent cairn.

We accessed the track via Buckneys Rd. A well marked and graded track, had a very enjoyable walk to the top, great views. Well worth the effort on a clear day.

As I was up on the mountain, I knew if there was a trig point, that there was a geocache I could claim and sure enough there was. Well worth the climb up as the view is spectacular.

I walked up Mt Stronach from the rail trail a few months ago but although I logged my visit to the nearby geocache I didn't log the trig. So while recovering from our 6 day adventure on the Overland Track I decided to repeat the adventure. The track from the Rail Trail, while still fairly rough and steep is now marked pretty well, I looks like members of a walking club have marked it with orange disks and durable orange tape. It's about a 5 hour trip up and back if you get dropped on the rail trail just to the east of Tonganah, walk up and back, then walked the 7 or so km into Scottsdale. The start of the track on the rail trail can be found at >> s41 11.263 e147 34.159.

Lovely little walk on a weekend camping trip with our Scouts. Stopped for lunch overlooking Scottsdale and did a replacement job on a nearby cache while I was there. Then we wandered up to the trig for a group photo of our 'peak bag'.
Loved the cairn Mr. Green

A pleasant walk to top great views of Mt Arthur, Mt Barrow and Ben Lomond. The large cairn was impressive.

As we drove to the car park, the question was "Will we or won't we?" It was raining quite heavily and, despite coats, we didn't have a change of clothes. As we neared the carpark, the rain stopped and the sun came out. Off we went. As reported by Sirius, it was a pleasant and not too demanding walk. We saw parts of the 4WD track - as reported by Sirius, anyone who even though about taking a 4WD was,at the least, a born optimist. After about 80 minutes we got to the top. The cairn was much larger than we had expected. Through the low cloud we could see well to the south and west, Scottsdale, Bridport and Bass Strait. This would be a marvellous vantage spot on a good day. It was a much faster trip down - we completed the round trip in 2 hours 20 minutes. This cache is strongly recommended, especially on a clear day when the views should be magnificent. Oh, and by the way, the rain stayed away during our walk but returned 10 minutes after we got back to the car.

Really easy trail up most of the way with a couple of short steep pinches. Take note of the terrain and how on earth 4wd's have made it all the way to the Trig....would love to see how much damage they incurred. Great views looking down onto Scottsdale with many surrounding mountains and out to the coast as well. Definitely one Trig worth visiting...many thanks GCA...Cheers.
