Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Another spot we regularly pass by. About time we stopped to have a look here at the lighthouse and other attractions such as GA caches and Trig points and Virtuals. Smile rhubarbroad

Couldn't find a traditional black disc on posts but turns out the lighthouse is the trig! Did find a survey marker and a survery peg, plus a white something (turns out it's a CORS) and the lighthouse. Photos of all of the above attached! Also found a blue tongue lizard but he moved too fast for us get his mug shot

Had been meaning to log this one for awhile, but a couple of little gnomes hiding nearby finally provided a convenient excuse. Very Happy We did the Silent Sentinel cache a couple of years ago when first beginning to cache, and it was a fantastic and memorable experience then as I had never been up here before. Since then I have visited this lovely, cute little lighthouse a couple of times and it's always such a great view. It has a feeling of seclusion even being so close to the busy highway. You feel above it all, close to the wind and sea. Never even noticed the trig mark before despite it being right there in plain view!

I found Silent Sentinel the hard way; by bashing thru the scrub. This time I took the easy way and walked up the road. It is surprising the number of Trig Points in Australia that are at named 'Round Hill'.

Cool, then I'll be the first one to find it! Easy stroll to this one on my way past. As I wandered up the little road, I wondered if lighthouses still have a purpose or have they become obsolete by more modern technologies? Thanks for listing it sirius.

10-Dec-09
Checking my own cache nearby...so created this Trig cache as well. FTF still up for grabs of course...Cheers.
