Description

OK – here’s a trig for all those cachers that would love to log a trig, but are not interested in climbing all the way up a hill to get there! – Who say’s that trigs need to be on a hill! No hills visible around here! In fact, this trig is as flat as it gets! Of course, the trade off is, you don’t get any views, oh well you can’t have everything! But it’s still a pleasant area, well worth a visit! Nice trig too! Trig is on TAMS unleased vacant land. (See pic), but all the land around it is private property, so don’t go wandering off...

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This one is currently hiding behind a large pile of dirt! Still managed to get a pic! Great to add another Trig to my collection, and earn another shot in battleship Smile

Found this cache on the way to, at or on the way home from the Mega at Clearwaters. My trip to the Mega was great, found lab caches which while like gadgets are new icons to me. Found some great caches and brought back some neat ideas for new caches in Tasmania.

A great morning of caching in Canberra, before heading out to Bungendore to finish of a powertrail. Even managed to squeeze in a parkrun at Mt Ainslie as well. Started a little fresh, but soon turned into a perfect caching day. All caches were found quick and easy, thanks to all cache owners for putting them out there!

Nice little hike along the river for some caches and some snakes and then this Trig on the way out.

We felt uneasy doing this Trig. being the weekend and no workers around we made a dash for the fence line and snapped a pic of the trig.TFTC

Final day of our eastern states holidays. Started in Queensland for four days then moved onto Cooma and Perisher for the ski trip now its off home to Western Australia. I called by to find this trig on the way to the airport. It took some finding and could only get a photo through the fence.

06-Jul-17
this feel pretty sus finding it. left the car running just in case I needed to get out quickly. haha

21-May-17
Last for the day and after pushing our way through a bit of shrubbery the trig was quickly spotted. We actually found one exactly the same on the way up from Cooma a few days ago.
Thanks.

Hey this will be my first DragonZone score as Dragon Fodder.
This trig is now probably only accessible by air!... But it is still here!!!

Unusual place for a trig, among the bricks and other building material, but a trig is a trig is a trig and photograph duly taken Very Happy.

After spending 2 nights at Captain's Flat I passed through the ACT on my way to Sydney, stopping to grab a bundle of moveables in a park nearby then stopping for the trig to get a valid ACT GA cache. I was able to park close enough to take my happy snap through the fence.
On the way out stopped to check out the garden place.

Found this one at 8:45pm. I was here in the area earlier with the geoson to drop friends off at the airport after a dinner function. So decided to look around here with the geoson for caches since I wanted to keep two streaks going. We had just completed two GC ones and I then found that this trig was nearby so went to look for it. After parking the geovehicle nearby we headed over to the closest point where we could see the trig through the fence about 20 or so meters away. Since it was dark a photo was not going to come out too well when the geoson said he'd jump the fence and take a photo. Before I knew it he was over the fence and that's when I realised there was a lot of smoke rising from the remains of a nearby fire and I started to hope there were no dogs. It's quite clear that the area has construction work going on and workers may be in residence. Just as he completed the photos some noise from someone moving could be heard so he headed back and over the fence. It will be interesting to see if access improves to this trig when all the work is completed It may not. The trig itself is different to those trigs I've seen so far.

GrimRaider and I pulled in to Pialligo on the way home from the Bohemian BBQ event today to grab this Trig, a cache or two and drop off some Trackables. Weird location for a trig... Thanks though - trying to hit 100 Trigs by the end of the year Smile

#GA391 - 13:05; I'd been out to Captains Flat with Sol de lune on a trig and cache run. We had made it back and grabbed some lunch before heading to a local event. I took the detour to grab this trig on the way. All fenced off, but managed to get a snap from the fence near the rather newish looking function centre and restaurant which seems quite popular today. I wanted to 'grab' this trig before heading home but there didn't appear to be any access. I was still able to get to 25 metres from this rather unusual trig at 17:00 however while there was still enough light to get the shot.

Thanks Geocaching Australia.

A very interesting trig to visit.

When I got the call to say I had to get down to Canberra, I had a look at all of the caches. You guys a spoilt for choice. I noticed that you have Earth Caches, Mailbox and Virtual Caches which we don't have back home, so I decided to aim for them.

Picked this up after work. I didn't realise that the road of to the left was a public road, and thought it was a private driveway. I was still in my work clothes, and am sure my employer would not appriciate me being arrested for trespassing wearing their logos, so I took a picture to prove I was here, if only from the street.

Doing some nearby GC caches so popped by to log this. A bit hesitant about climbing the fence, well used by the locals for 'vacant' land! An interesting design of trig.

16-Sep-11
Didn't read the cache page about the land status, so a far away pic.

03-Sep-11
Ummm....no photo taking equipment damn....but here is an artists rendition of my visit... (if this makes as much sense as cubism and the post-moderistic painters recommend you visit log for GC1GN0F Skiing Suicide Alley.)

Nice easy trig that was found before we found a cache at Googong Dam. Cool trig. TFTC. Smile

20-Apr-11
Hmm, the fences really make me think the owners have claimed if for themself.....

So anyway, it was a lovely balmy day. The weather was nice, there were fresh batteries in the gps, it was time for a walk up a hill, to claim another trig.
So, off i set. After finding a place to park, in some suburb i've never heard of, i set up the hill. Higher, and higher, and higher, and...oh my god am i there yet? I finally made it to the top of the hill, to admire the views, and grab the trig.
..........oh wait. Razz

Another one of those too easy jobs that takes forever to get around to.

24-Mar-11
Catching up on some trig finds...

Found this one on 13 May 2010 with GeoTeen but he didn't want his photo put up so here's me, the original Gigglygecko at the Trig Smile

13-Mar-11
Well - despite the pic I am not convinced this is still unleased land - it has the same fence as #16 and the gate says it is 16A - the grass is too well mowed & there is a very possessive dog that was not too happy to see me lurking along the fence - consequently I decided that discretion was the best option & I took my photos from a short distance away.

GCA 61 - 3529 - A couple of finds after work today - 1 GCA and 1 GC..

This trig is nice and close to work, so Sol and I decided to make the visit and find today. Photo attached !

TFTC !!

Dropped by on the way home, as it is on the way home.

A different style of trig. Photo attached.

27-Jan-11
A quick drive by grab after visiting a friend nearby at lunchtime. I like these trigs, no walking up hills.

08-Dec-10
There is a substantial sewerage overflow problem surrounding GZ at the moment.
In an attempt to solve it there is some monumental earth moving machinery parked around it.
You don't normally get that sort of thing on the top of a hill.
I'm a Gnome, duh!

25-Jul-10
Yet another weird looking trig point... and this one isn't even on a tall hill! Climbed under some fences to get to it but was once again happy that we could drive pretty much right up to it! Last stop for the day and was inspired to visit the winery - one day. Wink

25-Jul-10
Another rare drive up trig and the last in my trig run for the day.

17-Jul-10
It would be a bit boring if they were all this easy, but this one made for an interesting change.

01-Jul-10
Well, I'll be !
A second drive by trig for the day ! Big Grin
Thanks for the cache, GCA !

25-Apr-10
A trig without a hill. That's my kind of trig

25-Apr-10
We liked the idea of a "flat" trig! Found while shopping at the nearby nurseries. So busy today!

01-Apr-10
A nice easy trigpoint to start off our holiday.

01-Apr-10
Our first find after landing in Canberra on our way to the Oz Mega Event. I'd never seen a flat trig before, so that was cool. I will upload my photo once I get home.

28-Mar-10
Well there has been plenty of comment about the flatness of the ground at this trig. But for me, perhaps because Im an inexperienced trig-pointer, the unusual thing was the actual structure. I havent seen one like this before.

A couple of folks at the nearby wine tasting gave us strange looks, which I can understand. Id rather have been with them! But I had Little Buds with me, so it didnt seem appropriate.

Oh well, another time...

14-Mar-10
Was in the vicinity after the Pie and Pi Day and decided to grab a couple of Trigs.

08-Feb-10
Hadn't actually logged a find on GC or GCA for a few days now and was starting to get the shakes. A quick drive from work at lunch time gave me the fix I needed.

02-Feb-10
This is my first trig... I was driving back from a clients in Fyshwick, check my TomTom and thought I can do that! and I did!

09-Jan-10
It was going to be a very warm day so we decided to get all of the really difficult one's out of the way early (where's the tongue out emoticon?). Had a friendly dog come and view our efforts.

TFTC and the climb.

09-Jan-10
Final find for our day out.

09-Jan-10
Whew, this was a tough one!! An early morning find by McPhan and Winglen on a morning of collecting trig points. Boy were we all tired out after this one! Back to the car and onwards!

86+1749=1835 with Captain Tomato

I think the nearby property owner has "claimed" this for his own but I took heart with Tankengine's land use picture from TAMS.

A fun find on ***FLAT*** ground - amazing - and well-maintained.

Well Id be, This one puts my suburban trig to shamne. Never seen a trig on flat ground and yes didnt believe it until I saw it with my own eyes.

03-Jan-10
Out today with Ju and mr_roo and he initially didn't believe me that there was a trig in here. I haven't seen one like this before, it certainly is good to be able to reach a trig without the walk for a change!

03-Jan-10
The fence makes me think the locals don't know it is not theirs. Nice pole. I have seen several trigs on water towers in flat areas, so why not on the ground ? Albida

03-Jan-10
Nearby, so little problem popping around here. Strange, very strange indeed.

02-Jan-10
What's this - a trig on flat land! Did it fall of the back of a truck? Oh well, looks like it's permanently fastned, and belongs here!
