Description
Gellibrand Hill is in the Woodlands Historic Park and over looks Tullamarine Airport. The survey marker is missing but the structure is intact.
Some Melbournians may not be aware of Woodlands Historic Park, but it affords magnificent views of the city skyline and Melbourne Airport from the 204 metre summit of Gellibrand Hill. Nearby is cache Aeroplane Gelli, GC8D73.
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.
The closest access point to the summit is reached by parking in Mickleham Road and then taking the short walk along the gravel track and through a springloaded gate.
Park at Mickleham Road Parking Area at Swain Street, Greenvale.

Was over from Tassie with GooseandEgg, Toolman provided the bikes and we had a great day, thanks for the trig
We had Aeroplane Gelli on the To Do list and seeing we were so close I got the guys to take my photograph at the trig.
We sat around for a while watching the activity on the runway. I did a similar thing in Hong Kong many years ago. I sat on the top of Lion Rock and watched the planes at Kai Tak airport.
Thanks Geocaching Austtralia, a terrific view.
Once up the top of the hill, I saw this trig and assumed it was probably a GCA that I could also add as a find, so I took a photo. More details about my visit here are in my log for "Aeroplane Gelli.". TFTC }:)
Found whilst completing the woodland 100 series.
A wonderful view of the city and airport from the trig.
Detoured up the hill to nab this trig while completing the Woodlands series
That's cycling_guy in the picture too.... He rode, I ran - I think he got the better end of that deal!
So glad to be able to log this one today.

After finding the nearby Aeroplane Gelli we had lunch overlooking the airport, and then found this trig point at 12:30pm.
Thanks for setting this one up for us for us to find Riddell.
Thanks Riddell.
Mid-point (and high point) of a caching run out of the Providence Rd carpark... the easiest to spot of the day's caches.
while we was doing with Woodlands.
Lovely relax there.
TFTC !!
Along with Honeysucker and Froghoppin, I took a borrowed bike and pedaled 31 kilometres over 9 hours to grab the 100 Woodland caches as well as others in and around the Park.
In 5 hours we had found 70 caches but it took another 4 hours to clean up the rest. Even though it only got to 27 degrees, it felt like 35 and we drunk a lot of water.
Thanks to the hiders and keepers of the Woodland Caches. We had a great day but will I feel it in the morning.
Nice view from here.
Thank you Riddell for the trig point
I apologise to all the CO’s for using a generic log but after the 130+ caches for the day for me I’m too exhausted to even think of writing an individual log for each. Thanks to each and every one of you.
On a crazy hot day, found in the company of lochb whilst completing the Woodlands 100, plus extras which turns out to be my personal best day of caching with I think 109 finds!
So took the opportunity to do so on a fantastic Autumn day.
Also looked up a few other caches in the area.
Attempted to take a photo (or several), but it was 8pm and pitch black, so don't know if they are any good. Will check later after downloading.
(Firgured I couldn't log as found as don't have photo, even though was there)
I own it!
The Riddeller.
Like so many others we have visited this location for the nearby trad. but the views are just as magnificent as I remember them.
Diligently obeying the 'no dogs' sign at the very impressive spring-loaded gate and high fencing to the west, I parted company with the other half of Team Ladava and the dog for the final stroll to the trig point.
On my return I realised that the secure area supposedly protecting endangered species is an illusion as the fence to the east is non existent. As a cacher I should be trained to notice these things.
Our thanks to Riddell for listing the cache and the very pleasant excuse to revisit the location.
Cheers
Ian & Sandra
Team Ladava
Great views from here.
A quick TrigPoint on the way home.
We drove pas the logical stopping point and so had to do a Uturn or two to get back.
We walked down the track and headed up to the TP with memories of the GC cache at this location which I found in June 2004, my second month of geocaching.
The location was almost exactly as I remember and the views were just as good too.
A quick photo and then the stroll back to the car and home for dinner.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks Ridell for listing this TrigPoint at GCA. They're always a delight to go to and find, simply for the views.

GAFF 1
Really enjoyed to walk to the Trig as all the other caches so far have been drive by's. Been a while since we were last up here but the views still looked great. Watched a number of airplanes taking off before walking back to the car.
