Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Whilst researching GC caches in the Jindabyne area noticed this comment in a description "Very close to the other feature that sticks up in the air to the westish".

Another Trig not previously listed. It sits atop a large boulder & I couldn't get to it to see if there is any name attached hence my decision to give it a false name. Please feel free to correct the name.

24-Jan-21
A grand day out climbing Mt Kosciuszko and after those 26km I still had some time and energy to do some more caches around Jindi on the way out.

24-Jan-21

23-Jan-21
A surprise find whilst caching in the area.

09-Jan-21
Out exploring Kosciusko National Park today and getting a few trigs on the way, we also managed to stumble across a couple of unlisted ones as well. It was a beautiful day to be out and about in the mountains. This one was pretty cool and a nice practical monument nearby to the snowy hydro builders. But hairy getting up onto the rocks so take care

09-Jan-21
Out exploring another part of NSW can’t believe we haven’t spent much time here before

Visiting the area. I used to live just up the road from here as a teen. I honestly don't remember seeing this trig here before. That giant concrete structure beside it stole all the attention. Actually I think the views of the lake are the real show stealer.

19-Dec-19
Did manage to find this one ok despite no GA app and a bad run of trig searching today out at Charlotte's Pass!! TFTC.

14-Aug-19
Found the trig point on the way back from a day at Perisher. fantastic day on the slopes plentyvof snow and sun.

17-May-19
We had been camped at Island bend for 4 nights and were heading home when we stopped to do a GC cache. MrT was looking for the cache when he called out there was a trig there. I wandered over while logging in to the GA app. Well done MrT for the second trig find this trip! I took the photo then. TFTT

24-Apr-19
After spending the morning mountain biking in the cache desert around the resort, the afternoon was for caching, so a trip over to Perisher was planned, only 7km from the resort but at least 50km by road. 7 caches and a pair of trigs made for an enjoyable outing in this beautiful part of the world. Nice trig, and with a cache directly under it, the best type!

16-Feb-19
Found as part of the Team Canary 10K trip. After a big day out from Charlotte Pass, we came here on the way back to Jindy.

02-Feb-18
We are still working our way through the photos we took when we went to Canberra, Jindabyne, Thredbo and Tumut prior to the Mega event at Alexandra. The surge tank on this high vantage point overlooking lake Jindabyne certainly dominates the landscape. We were surprised that the trig point beacon had not been relocated to the top of the surge tank because it would have been much more visible from a greater distance. However we managed to locate the Surge Trig Point. The required photo has been added to the Gallery. Thanks geocaching Australia for the cache.

What a surprise to find this one when I was looking for a GC. there there was a Snowy Hydro SSM in the bargain.

08-Sep-17
While the kids were entertaining themselves in the snow, I went on some adventures!

Nice one, I think it's one dedicated to the Snowy Mountain Hydro scheme.

12-Aug-17
Found this trig point after a day of skiing in Perisher Valley.
When finding this one you have to walk carefully as the trig location is surrounded by many large rocks which act as the base for this trig.
We have also attached a couple of photos along with this log.
Thanks Geocaching Australia for sharing this one.
Cheers

17-Dec-16
Found after a drive up to Charlottes Pass. A pity our walk was cancelled due to the weather but great to pick up a few caches and trigs. Worth stopping here for the views. TFTT

After a full day of hiking to Mt Twynam and Carruther's Peak it was time to head back to Jindabyne and we stopped off to check out this area and I took a snap of the nearby trig point . I had been here in 1956 when the Snowy Scheme was being constructed.

05-Apr-15
Up here for the massive big tower and happened across a trig point too. Bonus!

09-Mar-15
Lucky there is also a geocache here, otherwise I would have assumed the trig was the top of the water tower!

25-Jan-15
Out on the mountain hiding some caches for the BWWC as well as finding some of the normal caches in the area. This one was a nice quick drive by, interesting that the actual plate and station were separated by so much.

16-Jan-15
Found while searching for a geocache.

04-Jul-14
The only trig for today, most trigs are impossible at this time of year around here!

25-Jan-14
Found on our Jindabyne/Narooma trip. After getting the cache right underneath the trig, we took a few photos. The sun was getting in the way and because the sun was behind the trig, when I stood under it, the shadow made my appearance invisible. So we just took a photo of the GPSrs and the trig instead. Nice place and not the spot where you would usually find the trig. TFTC GCA!

10-Jan-14
After some great views, grabbed a selfie.

30-Nov-13
Found this Trig while having a break from Cross Country Skiing with younger son, Fang Shaw, and another young chap that later became a cacher - MVMB. Took some photos of the trig and the nearby State Survey Marker

30-Nov-13
Found this trig, and photographed it back on 14/7/2009 with Fang Shaw and Grahame Cookie.

I found this with BJC but I was so chicken to climb up Smile

31-Mar-13

25-Apr-12
Ooops - catching up on the to-do list. ANZAC day caching trip with Doppelfrog braving the windy weather.

Final Trig on a Trig logging/walking day in the snowies. This one was dead easy, almost could log from the car, but still got out as there was a bonus GC cache here too

04-Sep-11
Found on the way back from a day's skiing

14-Dec-10
Saw and found while attempting a near by cache.

26-Nov-10
Found this Trig whilst caching for a Traditional then stumbled across a Survey Marker....that's what we love about caching - the surprise element Clapping

23-May-10
Found just before the nearby cache, and remembered to take a photo - my first trig log!

02-May-10
We have been here before for the cache now we are here for the trig photo! Also found a snowy survey marker nearby.

23-Mar-10
Above the GC Cache "Feel the Surge". It has felt the westerly winds & is in a bad state of repair but recognizable to the trained eye. A trig & a cache - the perfect combination.
