Description

Emerald Beach Trig

You will spot it a long time before you reach it! Park at S30° 10.434' E153° 11.328' and the White Marker is clearly visible... you just need to get there. Enjoy the great walk down to the beach and back up the headland. From the Trig you will have spectacular views of the Solitary Islands and the coast South to Coffs Harbour and North to Woolgooga. There are a lot of information boards around about the shipwreak history and other features of the coastline here. There is no mark on the Trig Plynth as the brass plate has been vandalised :( But I looked up the Geoscience Australia site and found this:

Trig is Offical - Reference Number NSW17527
Official Code:
 TS6770D

First Spotted and Listed by Zalgariath

===================================================================================================================

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

There is also an "Australian Trig Points" Waymark associated with this trig:

Sophoutloud and I are on a bit of a road trip on our way to Lennox Head for a conference, it gave us an excuse to have a mini holiday and take a few days to get there. So for us that always means finding caches and trigs on our travels. This trip so far has been great as we have had the chance to visit a bunch of beautiful Northern New South Wales Beach towns. Being the off season they have been pretty quiet and even though it is June, much warmer than at home in the Hawkesbury. We pulled off the highway into Emerald Beach to find somewhere to pull up and make some lunch my diligent co pilot spotted this lovely short walk out to a view point and we took our lunch with us. Another great spot that juts out into the ocean and again we saw whales within about 100 meters which was quite spectacular. There were also a bunch of friendly Roos up here too. A quick snap and then back to the car to look for somewhere to spend the night

We spent a few hours north of Coffs Harbour this morning, from trig to trig, grabbing 3 trigs and a handful of caches in between.
Another awesome spot - this one stands out like few others. We could see it from the other side of the bay while doing an AL. On the way to the trig we saw a python and a sea eagle....

I really enjoyed walking around here from Emerald Beach ... and saw more kangaroos than people so thought I'd put this long shot of the trip and kangaroos rather than the close up everyone else does.

Just like the description said, the daughter spotted the trig waaay before we got to the carpark. The youngest son was enamoured by the kangaroos chilling on the headland. A great walk down to a nice sheltered beach for the kids to play on.

Raining.. the second time today we've been caught in it. Being wet in the wind was a little chilly for February. Lots of kangaroos and great views but conditions weren't congenial for standing around admiring anything today.

We had finally been able to visit family nearby and took the time to pick up a few caches while here TFTC

I was in a bit of a hurry to get to Coffs and find some accommodation, but this walk just has to be made. Not too long or hard...just worthwhile.

I think I have mixed up my photos of Sandy Beach and Emerald Beach. They were both easy but fun walks.

For some reason I have never walked up this headland in all my previous visits to Woolgoolga where my parents live. Today had a bit of spare time so had a nice walk in a slightly brisk southerly with lots of roos about and great views up and down the coast. It is apparently called Look at Me Now Headland. Thanks GA.

A beautiful day today. weather was perfect for a walk. Dropped in to see my son and wife in my way home and he brought me out here for a walk and rock scramble. It is so beautiful out here. We even saw a Sea Eagle up on the rocks and then take off down towards the ocean just out of sight.
And of course we stopped at the trig and got a snap.

A trig with a spectacular view, both up and down the coast and to nearby Solitary Island. Well worth the walk, especially on a nice sunny day.

A nice stroll out to this one along a paved track. Very windy Too.

As I was wanting to clear up a bit more of a zone for Waymarking trigs in particular I had headed north after helping a new geocaching group get 'on the board' on Saturday. A great day for a walk, and quite a few people enjoying the spring weather.
Found @ 1330
One of the reasons for heading this far north was to grab a few more trigs (and especially those that are Waymarks). I don't think I have ever been out onto this particular headland before. A pleasant walk, that would almost be wheelchair accessible.Tho when I got back to the car park there was a group hopping out of a van, and a friendly young lady said "Good morning" (sic) as I was unlocking my car. She was helping to unload a wheelchair for her friend/house mate (who needs assistance with ADLs - Activities of Daily Living). I don't think the carer of two ladies was too concerned about the friendliness shown to a 'stranger', and probably used to it. We spoke about the condition of the paved track. They wanted to see some kangaroos; and I let them know that there was one feeding away, and wished them good luck with the path. It gets narrow enough for only one wheelchair for most of it. Would probably rate it Terrain 1.2 Surprised

Completed a GCA Trig & Waymark at the same time – used photos for both logs – a very nice walk out to this point – thanks ClappingClapping

Checked out the 2 unknown graves and read the info about the ships colliding near here. Then had a lovely paddle along the beach to the start of the short walk to GZ.
Thanks, a lovely area to visit.

Woo Hoo Yeah! FTF! Well first to discover, spotted this from a distance and thought the shape looked familiar. Sure enough after a great little walk it was a Trig Point. Confirmed online its "Official" status and have listed it for you to enjoy the amazing views it provides. Come See!
