A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

#GA2272 - 11:45; When the States of the Nation game began, a plan was hatched for a group of ACT cachers to take a trip north to the Hawkesbury on a scavenger raid. As time passed the group's numbers dwindled, but with a bit of work solving puzzles and a few things rescheduled, our merry band comprising andrewbt, Sol de lune and I set off on a damp Canberra morning to try our hand. A recent visit to Canberra by cachers from this area provided an added incentive, so we could repay the karma points we gained from their visit. A successful day it turned out to be with 56 finds and only three DNFs. A quick park and snap as we headed along Dight Street towards Richmond township. Easy to see even against a storm grey sky. 'Tis not often with a reservoir top trig that the full structure can be seen while relatively close by. Photos taken did not do justice for the find.

22-Jun-11
I had not been on this side of the Airforce Base since I worked at the 2 Airshows back in 1988 and 1991, so this trig/cache was a good excuse to detour on the way home today. 3rd trig, and 7 cache overall for the day.

27-Feb-11
First trig on our way for a day of caching in Wilberforce. This one is very easy to spot, it seemed higher than most of the reservoir trigs I've seen for some reason. Or maybe it was just that it wasn't surrounded by huge trees like most of the ones in the Mountains? Anyway, another nice red trig ticked of my list.

I've never been around this side of the RAAF base before, interesting to see what it looks like from the other side.

19-Feb-11
Our sixth trig for the day and this one confused the Navman as there's a Dight St in Windsor that's about 50 metres long with no water tank! Of course we trusted the Garmin and found the other Dight St which is behind the RAAF base. Easy to photograph from the car. A quick stop on a hot day.

08-Feb-11
Since I was close by Geocaching for Gnomes, I thought I had better check this one out, no problem an easy find and visible from a long way off. Nice red trig station on top of this reservoir.

An easy trigpoint to spot!

This red-coloured traditional trig is set very high on the Dight Street Reservoir in Richmond, and is very easy to see from far away. However, if you park right at the base of the reservoir, you can't see it very well at all.

I took a couple of photos from about 100 metres up Dight Street and will upload them when I get them off my iPhone camera in the next couple of hours.

The sun bothered me a bit and the trig didn't look quite as red as I expected. However, this might have been because of the angle and the sunlight . . .

01-Dec-10
This one was part of my wet Wednesday drive around. Parking nearby was very, very boggy!

21-Nov-10
FTF Razz

I was returned from doing the cache "Parachute Views" when I realized the Trig Point had not been listed on the Geocaching Australia web site.

It is very easy access along Dight Street.

Cheers, GazMag
