Logs
Our second trip to Hargraves, first to recon the 2001 trad back at the carpark, second today to set-up ropes and abseil down to it. The trig was found as our warm down walk before a fish'n'chip lunch in Blackheath. These are some of the best views in the Blue's, and that is saying something.

Well this was the high light of the day – a short walk to an amazing trig - the amphitheatre here is amazing - many thanks – taken many photos & a short film

I only realised there was a trig here about two weeks ago. I went to the one-E-less Hargraves lookout and saw it on the map. I didn't have the time to walk down to the trig but came back today. Except for a small ridge in the way, you could see my house from here.

A few caches late on the day while waiting for others to cook my dinner! Smoke has come back and taken most of the views, but still excited to go out this way. Has been years since I gave been out this way out of Blackheath. Last time I did drop dead.

Coming home from a a day out in the country with the family. Not one that I can say that I enjoyed. My fear of heights got the better of me, but we made it. The views are amazing! Just awaiting the photo from my son's phone.

Always good to chase trigs like this for the view but today there was not much to see except a trig. A pretty good looking and recently maintained trig at that. TFTC.

MrT had to do a recce for SES training so a good opportunity to get a photo of the trig there. TFTT
A steel-framed pillar with fibreboard panels supporting beacon mast and vanes. It has a similar appearance to the more common concrete pillars. Stakes for 4 guy wires surround it but only one wire remains in place. looks like it's been repainted recently. Described in 1977 as an "I.S D. station".
Found with JJCC on a run up to Blackheath. Nice walk out along the spur, well worth the visit.

I got a quick snap of this while admiring the magnificent views. Someone has written some Bioshock and Pixies references on the side (not permanant) which also give it a weird sense of character.
Found with Team Webguy as we were on our way to find the new nearby scaredy cat cache.

Wanders with All Strung Out as Cache hides were sought, and along the narrow walkway to this standout trig. Unusual construction (fibro/masonite?) and the guy wires a telling story of the winds the vanes likely cope with. Stunning mountain vista.
No nameplate on the trig ... named here as Hargreaves ... the parking area large signpost Hargraves.

Found in the company of Grahame Cookie whilst I was building up the courage to complete the nearby Drop Dead Gorgeous
Awesome views from this vantage point.

1300 (280 km from home) Before helping 'Team' Juddda get down safely to #9 Drop Dead Gorgeous we thought we would head on out and grab us a trig. I really don't know why there aren't more of this style trig station, as the pedestal part of this trig would weigh in less than just the form-work to make a concrete pedestal on site of the usual 'modern' type of Trig Point that I have found, some of which have been in very remote areas.
It was a beautiful day to be outdoors for the last day of winter.
Thanks to Dave for the photo, as I had accidently left my camera back in my car in Sydney. Still quite a few trigs to re-find in the Blue Mountains, and am somewhat surprised that I had missed getting it the other times I had been out to get the nearby cache.

After just completing the task of abseiling down the cliff to SL on DDG I followed fellow cachers out to this trig and beyond.

A fantastic trig, well worth the effort after our epic at the adjacent Drop Dead Gorgeous cache.
After the DDG abseil, we walked over to this trig. A beauty she is, with views all around. Recommend!!

my thanks go to pjmpjm who drove me all the way to this amazing Trig after the "GLF & GFF" event in Mt Victoria. I was going to walk there next week, but driving was much easier!
What a great view, the trig is intact, the pedestal is Masonite, not concrete as usual, and due to the high winds in this area it was secured with guy wires. The track from the car park to the Trig is only short but care need be taken if wet or raining as it gets very narrow in places with huge drop on the side.
Not recommended for young children.

The walk down to this one is signposted and narrow but quite easy and surrounded by magnificent views.
Mrs. pjmpjm and I were visiting Blackheath and the Shipley Plateau area today, and checked out the area around the GC 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' geocache. (I was investigating a possible future expedition there.)
Beyound the 'Hargraves Lookout,' weWe spotted a rocky and clearly little-used trail leading down and beyond the lookout with a very faded out sign reading 'Panorama.' The completely unfenced and preciptous trail led us right the very end of the plateau and there -- lo and behold! -- stood an old trigpoint! I was flabbergasted, to say the least. I have to give my wife credit for finding it . . .
Two of the four guy wires are still in place and, although it looks as though it's sitting on a concrete pillar, the four sides are actually made out of some kind of fibro.
There's no side plaque and no name visible, but there's a top plate with the usual word 'survey' on it.
And of course, absolutely spectacular views of the Megalong Valley.
This trig was a complete surprise to me and -- coupled with some of the best views you'll ever find in this part of the Blue Mountains -- makes me rate this one a 'Four Thumbs Up' geocaching experience.
Be very careful if you bring geokids beyond the 'Hargraves Lookout' area. The barely signposted 'Panorama' track is narrow and unfenced and there are sheer cliffs right near the track in several places.
