A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a faded, worn black disc on top a concrete pillar. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This Trig is located to the side of Picton Road and is the standard trig frame with the disc on pole.

Unfortunately the disc is no longer there. I couldn't find it in the area around the trig. So happy to have ticked this one off the list.

HanorahTLG is at the scoutscamp at Mt Keira and need to be picked up at 14:00. Let's spend the morning grabbing some caches!

Somebody clipped its vanes.....

Passing by I spotted this Trig Point. Never seen this in all the times I have been along this road. It's a simple frame these days still standing tall.

On a 'gong escarpment trig road trip with rogerw3.

On the return towards home a late in the day stop beside Picton Road for this tired remain of rusted tripod and 'mast'.

Out on a Trig hunt with Whitemushroom.
Sadly the vanes have snapped off the mast and are now missing completely, nothing to be found. The broken mast and tripod legs are left standing looking quite forlorn.

I picked up this trig on the way into Wollongong for a four day conference. Nice and easy by the side of the road, though the traffic was pretty heavy. I wanted to get Cordeaux Colliery as well but had run out of time. Thanks again - trying to grab 100 trigs before the end of the year Surprised

Found with LuckyL10n during our day trip down to The Gong...

Wow, this poor old trig is looking a sad compared to the last visitor. Vanes are off and are just lying on the ground. Victim of an accident....no sure, it was dark and we couldn't see that well....but the vanes are certainly on the ground....

#GA667 - 17:25; Sol de lune and I had discussed a wild trig hunt in the Illawarra quite a while ago and today was the day we tried to bring home the bacon. We had collected a few on the way down the mountain and in to Kiama, before heading north for a DNF in Shellharbour then on to the main section of the Tour de Illawarra. We were headed for home along the Picton Road when we stopped for this drive by trig, the last of 30 for me for the day! An entertaining tour and a nice conclusion to it before we hit the Hume Highway and headed for home, a hot shower and a cold beer. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

I have driven past this trig many, many times but found it a bit difficult to stop but today I was able to stop at the "we love the Gong sign and walk back.

Last find for the day making five GC caches and 8 trigs including two new ones. We'd passed this spot before months ago but didn't have the camera handy. The coords were still in the GPSr so we pulled up on our way home and crossed the road. I looked around the base for some identifier but there's a lot of growth. Then I found the metal tag with the "Water Board Survey" imprint that a previous cacher had found attached to the post. The wire has rusted away and it's fallen off. I placed it at the base of the post.
If it's a Water Board Survey trig it's still a trig, just need to find the official name and number. Someone will have access to the records no doubt.

Driving past on the way home from Bungonia, was a little caught out with how close to the road this was, and lack of easy pull in area. Oh well, a quick walk back to take a pic and then onwards!
Thanks for the cache,
Wal

After passing so many times finally I took the effort of stopping to log the trig here. Not much traffic so I was fine, but pooring rain!! Luckily this is one of the few caches for wich you don't even have to leave your car!!

Dancing Quick find on my way home from the gong today.

13-Aug-11
Grabbed on my way home on a caching adventure around Tahmoor way. Finally stopped to log this one. But upon reading the very rusty sign, this is a "Water Board Survey Marker" rather than a trig point. Guess it should be archived? But hey it is about the adventure so let it fly IMHO.

But now I can find it without the work! Very Happy

Shell actually spotted this one on the way down to the Illawarra event but we went sailing by so it was left to me to jog down from the nearby GC cache on the way back to log this one.

I'm amazed that more people haven't spotted it.
