Description

Bonnyrigg TS1057

The official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Bonnyrigg.

Serial number is: TS1057.

Last Inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 135 metres.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

The trig was spotted on Google Earth. It is on top of a water tank near a new estate in Abbotsbury. Access is from the park to the west near GC cache "Plough and Harrow".

At the moment on google and google earth the imagery date is at 05-05-2016 and it is showing the roof still off. I was in the area in the early evening and it was very dark and drizzling a little. I could here in the distance rumbles of thunder and could tell the storm was coming. I took a chance from parking area and did the walk up the hill to water tank. I left my camera at home so I had to rely on my mobile phone. As it is an older one its pictures are just OK but not good enough. I knew if I found trig, I will need to return with my good camera to take better shots which I will do in the early new year. Once at the top I walked around the back where others have taken the photos it has change a bit. There it a ladder system to get to the top of the tank and around the whole edge of tank at the top there is a hand safety rail to stop anyone from falling of tank. I had to walk back a fare bit and take the shots. The main problem is that the fin part of trig is painted the same colour as the water tank. As it was very overcast and starting to drizzle and thunder in the distance the trig blended very well in the background. So yes, in a couple of weeks I will return to take better photos. As I was trying to find a location to get a better shot of fin and legs, I could tell the storm was coming and getting closer. So, I left and did a down hill fast walk and jogging. Just as well as I got to car and started to leave the havens opened up and started to rain heavy, so a close call. Will return. Clan Griffin

This TP appears to be MIA and has been unavailable for > 90 days, so to stop it turning up in the search lists we'll archive it. If the TP is resurrected anyone activate the listing by placing an unarchived log against it.

Bonnyrigg Reservoir is currently undergoing a roof replacement and the trig has been removed.

The trig is anticipated to be repalced by November 2016.

Out to collect a few Trigs in the area today. Parked in the Plough & Harrow Park, lots of people picnicking here today still parking was ok. Walked up the access road past the adventure play ground up to the water reservoir. There are some nice views from up here so it was worth stopping.

This was a fave for the day. The geocaching app told me to park and I found that I has a 1.2km walk though a corridor between houses. I decided to just enjoy the walk. I got to see some Endeavour Energy workers way up with the wires, I discovered a lovely park (with parking) and a Tree Tops Adventure place for the kids. Then there was the walk up to the trig. Worthwhile. On the way back I got chatting with one of the electricity guys and learned a few things about wires. One of them pointed out a hawk's nest, but the hawks were out for the afternoon.

#GA424 - 16:45; I suggested to Sol de lune some time back that we should do a day run to Sydney to pick up some of the GCA trigs and caches on offer. A couple of weeks ago we identified an opportunity timing wise and so it was that we made our way north today, collecting a total of 32 trigs for the day. Another climb up a hill, but this one started at a very nice parkland area, which includes a kids adventure park too! Once we made it to the top, we headed around the back of the reservoir where the trig was easily sighted. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

A day trip planned with LuckyL10n to start grabbing a few trigs in different areas of Sydney. Hit Campbelltown, Liverpool, Fairfield and Bankstown today...and grabbed a total of 32. Back in a couple of months for another go.

Bit of a walk up the hill through the great looking picnic area, but once around the front, there were no problems and the photos were soon grabbed.

Cerberus will rule here. ClappingVery HappyClan Cerberus

A hill climb once through the Sunday Plow and Harrow family groups. Somewhat disconcerting to see the track close up upon the electric towers ... and no sign of the trig on the reservoirs. Follow the track around to the 'back' where there is the reservoir signage, and a red vanes topped trig.

Find number 2 of today's Trig hunt with pjmpjm.
From the further end of the car park we found the right track and did the short climb to the top of the hill, the trig is not apparent until you get right behind the reservoir, but then the bright red vanes start to show over the edge.

Second find of the day with rogerw3, during our trig hunting expedition in the general area of Prospect.

Drove in past 'Plow and Harrow' and parked at the far end of the car park. Lots of people around due to the school holiday period.

Getting up the hill required some special navigation due to temporary closure of access to the normal trail. (Trig isn't visible until you get up close.)

Anyhow, we made it to a suitable spot for photos, and were delighted to have another log -- especially since rogerw3 is getting close to 400 trigs.

Remember that you'll need to get right round the reservoir before the red vanes become visible.

Came in from Plough and Harrow. Had to search to find open, not locked, gates but soon climbed the hill to the reservoir and rounded it for the photo.

Well it was late in the day and I couldn't find a way in from down the hill in the housing estate. The suggested spot has a locked gate but looking at the map it's likely you can get in from the other GC cache nearby Plough & Harrow (http://coord.info/GC127YJ) through that park. Next time!
