I had the day off today and none of my normal adventure buddies were available to go and do something with so I got to go on a solo walk which I haven’t done in a while. I have been meaning to head out and grab a few of these trigs for a while as they are quite local to me but they to need a bit of time allocated to them to head out for the whole day, often for just 1 trig. After trying for a few of the other trigs around but not wanting to deal with all the private property signs. I settled on doing the 11km out and back to grab Ivory Trig. It was a very easy and nice walk out from Canoelands road, it was reasonably warm for July and I even got a bit of unforcasted rain. The last big of the off track to the trig was on the thicker side but nothing too overwhelming. The old trig is still there de piled while the new one has had a nasty melting experience the last time a fire came through and the vanes have bent right over and are touching the ground.
All in all a great day out

Two big caching days in a row to find some specific caches in the Hornsby and North Sydney area. Great weather and reasonable traffic made for an excellent day! This one of the trigs I found! Great walk and not to bad for a bush bash.

Took a few RFS pals for a bushwalk to Ivory today. We saw a bit of a track from above but it was patchy and heavily overgrown for much of the length.
The trig is droopy, no doubt from past fires, but the vanes although rusted, are still whole. The nameplate is in place protected by remoteness. We had a good look at the remnant cairn and admired the multiple skills that past surveyors needed.
I doubt the actual trig was surveyed in August 1984. The file notes for then are marked "Access Only" and record access details from Maroota to Tower 126, but nothing about the trig itself. The last detailed survey is January 1975, about two years after the concrete pillar was installed.

A good walk out with KRS to The 2 Dogs Tower 126 and then with only a couple of hundred meters to go it was a bush bash out to this old and out of sight trig to collect some unloved. TFTC
6/8/17. 10:25 AM. GCA Cache #28.
1 GC & 1 GCA today, in Canoelands.
Out with bella at waggy to get a smiley for GC's "Tower 126". The day before, I had been speaking to crash2079, who mentioned that this trig was only a short distance away from T126 (just over 220m as it turns out), but more importantly he mentioned that this GCA was almost 3 years unloved (he was quite tempted to joint us, despite having found T126 himself some time ago).
The bush bash from T126 was quite thick in places and it shows that in nearly three years, just about no one has been here, not only geocachers. I soon found the rock wall and the trig's pillar. The mast was bent with the vanes towards the ground, having melted at a weak point during some past fire, as others have already mentioned. I thought that the trig should be renamed Mr Floppy. b@w and I took the necessary photos and then returned back to the car via the route we had taken to Tower126.
Glad to get some unloved here, shared with b@w. TFTC.

Changed earlier Found It to a Note, as I still want to get back there and get some current photos.
Good day out, and Ivory is photogenic despite it's fiery history.

Out on a bushwalk today looking at rock orchids and it was great that the group wanted to walk out to this old trig as well. Not cachers but obviously intelligent people if they like trigs! Yep, the dismantled stone circle is really quite large. I wonder if the old locating pin is still in the middle there somewhere?
Having found Tower 126 I pushed on through the bush to Ivory. What a shame the old trig is mostly dismantled. It must have been huge in its day judging by the circumference of the remaining cairn and the size of the boulders. Still nice to find it, though. Yurt's mystery envelope is still there.

I don't tend to log trigs, but as this was close to the fabled Tower 126 cache, I thought I'd take a look. I'd read Yurt's log re the bushbash but somehow it didn't register. It registered soon enough though as I started to make my way through some pretty thick foliage. It was about 200 metres from the Tower 126 cache, but it was as tough a bushbash as I've done in a long time.
Eventually found the sad trig with its bent mast fast becoming overgrown by the bush. The remnants of the original stone cairn are right next door. The mysterious plastic bag with the enigmatic numbers is still there too.
I managed to find a marginally easier route back to the tower. But of course, there was still a good hour's walk after that back to the car...

Thursday, 15/8/1985, 1400, was on a 'solo expedition', one of a few to find various trig stations.
Photo taken, and catalogued; then thrown out in the 90's - doh!
Don't think I've got the negative any more.
Obviously no geocaches out here in those days, just the fun of the hike.

Our first target of the day was the old Two Dogs cache "Tower 126" (http://coord.info/GCG2MB) and the story of that is related there. But the added incentive for this long walk was an unfound trig a mere 200 metres beyond the cache. It was a cloudy old June day but no rain at this stage. After the cache we thought we might find an old fire trail to the trig which was sure to be on a high point here. Well there's no trail at all. We had a pretty solid bush bash for about 130 metres before it thinned out a bit and finally bashed our way to GZ to a spot with no view at all due to the growth of the past 30 years.
Found the trig as described except it's in the same condition as Taber, the PVC post was melted in a bushfire, probably the one in the early 2000s. It's a sight indeed. Nearby is a circle of stones which is the remnant of the original stone cairn. It must have been a good size. The plaque is still in place on the pedestal and other than the melted mast it's in good nick! What was odd was that there was a plastic bag taped to the mast with two soggy envelopes inside. The plastic bag had almost completely decayed as it fell to pieces in our hands. We opened the envelopes which both had the same five digit number written on them to find a small laminated square of paper with the number '10' in each. We can only guess that this was part of some orienteering game in years past where the competitors never made it as far? Who knows? A mystery.
Bashed our way back out - this bashing wouldn't have been too bad except for the fact that we'd already walked 5.5 km and had that far to walk out afterwards!
Worth a visit for anyone coming for the geocache.
