Description
Base Richmond South TS781
Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Base Richmond South.
Serial number is: TS781.
Last Inspected on: November 6, 2008.
Elevation is: 32 metres.
A stone and concrete base where a possible mast may have stood. A name plate is also on the base and is legible to read. This was vacant land at the time of last inspection owned by Department of Housing.
It is interesting to note that somewhere along the line somebody made a mistake with the name, but who is right is now impossible to say! The Lands Department data list this Trig as "Richmond Base South" but the name plaque reads "Base Richmond South". It seems most likely that the engraver made a mistake but since the plaque is what everybody will see it is best to keep that name.

Yep the 5th & last 1 completed & a good way to finish it off as it was starting to heat up for the day and it was starting to be a sweet a thong. Thanks for showing
Access can be gained from one of two directions and the first one we picked was too wet to follow so we relocated to the other access point. At least on this path we could avoid or move around the puddles. At GZ we each took out happy snaps of being there.
Nice simple track, but I could see no trig until about 10 m away from the BASE of the trig. I had been wondering about the name, as it is nowhere near Richmond (RAAF) Base!!
Took a couple of photos on a spare camera.
The turn off the main road was quickly found and we started driving down the track almost to GZ. A short search later and the Trig was found well not much of a challenge as it is rather large. The base is quite unusual due to its size and shape however there is no doubt as the name plaque is still in place with the Trig plug dead center as well.
The mast and vanes have long gone but the remains are well worth the trip, beside since this land is owned by the Department of Housing it is only a matter of time before is is built on.
Turning off on a muddy track, we found that we could drive the AWD GeoBuru2 almost all the way to GZ. Some the of puddles were very deep, though, and I recommend that others with 2WD vehicles walk the 200 metres plus from the road.
Sadly, this scrubby and wet area isn't far from where human remains were found recently (off Devlin Road) and when leaving we unexpectedly passed the roadside police headquarters for the extensive forensic work that's being undertaken. (However, the trig is located nearly 2 kms distant from this tragic site.)
As FTFer Hoogies has reported, the post and vanes have long gone from the TS. However, to our pleasant surprise, we found the official name plaque was still in place, as was the official location pin.
A great find and quite enjoyable.
Many thanks to rogerw3 for his research that led to his publishing this one.
'Three Thumbs Up' for the name plate and location pin.
