Description

Obelisk TS3596R

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Obelisk.

Serial number is: TS3596R.

Last inspected on: May 6, 1976.

Elevation is: 731 meters.

This Trig is the obelisk of the concrete monument on the graves.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

A very cold day to be out chasing Trigs with GLiSS! Some had budding scientists visiting them and others, like this one, were a little quieter. What a very cool unique Trig!! Great to have another one in the bag. Now to shoot some battleships!

Sophoutloud and I spent a few days camping with friends at Hill End and then because of the very wet weather that came in on Sunday night they decided to bail and head home early so we had the day to fill by ourselves so what better way to do that but explore a new area and bag some fresh Trig points around Hill End and Bathurst. I have to say all the Trigs we found today were in Amazing condition, I am not sure wether they get repaired here more often or are just vandalised less out here. Either way it was great to see. another challenging one to stop safely and get a good shot but we managed to do it in the end. A very interesting Trig wish I could have got up closer to this one. also a GC cache close by here too

Found it! Not your normal trig so super interesting. We’re out and about getting a bit distracted on our way back from hill end. A bit hard to find a good spot to park up and get a photo but got there in the end

There was a BIG reason to go caching today
The dragons are having a May Madness party. A 2 times dragonZone points bonus will be on offer for all valid Geocaching Australia dragonZone caches found, except moveables, for the period Sat 11 – Sun 19 May.
Well I figured I’ll find as many trigs in 1 day as posable & that was 29 of them.
So, for me this was a BIG day of trigging.
No 28 of 29 – parked on the side of the road & took the shots - interesting trig this 1 is –- many thanks Clan GriffinClan Griffin

Touring the Bathurst region with friends and family.

A weekend trip to Bathurst for a church leaders retreat. Mmm a long weekend away from home where there are caches to be found? Yes please! And dragonZone ones that could get me uber points this weekend. Um, yep - try stopping me!

Well hubby knew I had to geocache and also knew that the dZ game was important to me so he got a ride to Orange to measure up shop for a job while I drove around collecting trig points and stations. One was an obelisk, one was closed off behind houses with only a small gap to see it, and 7 of them were a test line. I wish I was allowed to climb to the obelisk to see what it was for, but sadly no, it appeared to be private property all around.

Well I had a great time collecting lots of dragonZone points, I mean trigs. wink wink.

Go Griffin! Clan GriffinClan GriffinClan GriffinClan GriffinClan Griffin

I was here a while back, but oblivious to the fact that there was a trig above me...not this time.

Hill End and Mudgee weekend April 2018. I set out late on Thursday after a small battery issue. I only stopped once before a night at Bummeroo ford. Friday took me to Orange via many spread out caches between Oberon and Bathurst. I spent the night at Macquarie woods. Saturday started foggy and then warmed up. I was heading to Hill end, and did make it, but I had to give up on the Bridal track due to a rockfall. Late in the evening I did find a spot along the Turon river and the very bumpy northern section of the Bridle trail. Sunday had me finishing the TRLT trail from Mudgee to Gulgong and a few missed ones in tyhe middle of nowhere. The last day was a simple drive home from Sofala. A great weekend !

The monument visible from below looks great !

Thanks

#GA2425 - 14:40; Day five, the last day of the summer sojourn in the Blue Mountains with the geohoney. After an enjoyable few days based in Leura, the time had come to pack up and head for home. It was also time to do one last quick caching run around the area while the other half finished getting ready for the trip. After collecting some caches in Leura and doing a sweep through Wentworth Falls, we were now packed up and headed for home the back way through Bathurst, Orange and Canowindra with a view to adding a few caches as well as a few dragonZones to the tally. After reaching Bathurst we headed off to have a look at the Mount Panorama circuit, stopping for some trigs along the way as well as at the top of the mountain Dancing Grabbed a few more finds on our way through the town, then hit the highway heading for Orange. Backtracked a bit to pick up this trig, but happy that I got the shot. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

GCA 1784. Headed up to the Bathurst region on a caching run (again !!) with minniek.

I really enjoy the more unusual Trigs. Church Spires, Water Tanks, Historical Buildings. This is another nice example - the Obelisk. I have found at least one more like it - in Newcastle.

What a neat looking trig.....looking at it from the road. Would be very cool to get up and see it close up, but alas.....

A Bathurst surrounds trig hunt day with master navigator rogerw3.

A slow drive along approach for this startling reveal ... with ample and safe parking roadside for a good view. Sadly on private property, it would have been good to view up close.

Found today with whitemushroom on our Trig hunt tour. Easy enough to see from the right angle, it is definitely on private property.

Didnt climb hill to obelisk as on private property. Had to look closely as it is camouflaged on top and surrounded by cactus.
