Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and photograph themself or their GPSr.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies. However, this one was sourced from an Buladelah Forestry map, so contains inaccuracies from measurement and conversions from Aus Geo 66.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

The map show the usual Trig triangle, and measurement of elevation of 141m

The difficulty of 2, is for being able to navigate a route there.

Came in from the east. Started on a trail but then bushed bashed up. Found a rough trail down to the NE. See more on GC

Have always liked finding these survey markers, and it was not a nice walk spoiled (!)
My 'el cheapo' GPSr does not 'cut it' on this kind of hike, so was glad I could borrow a better one sometimes (from the cacher who educated me from being a muggle / eccentric trig hunter).
Rather rocky on the way up, and even harder on the way down as the sun had already set by then. Found the trig about 1720. Good condition, poor views.

1515 Had planned on getting this one for a while, even though I don't have a topo map for this area to check the best route, so was relying on the GPSr more or less. I understand that having the coordinates translated from the Bulahdelah Forestry map gave a fair inaccuracy, so will update from what I got.
Took a slightly different route to Manning Valley Mountain Biker, but must have crossed paths somewhere. Reasonably rugged untracked most of the way, but crossed a series of low, loose fence lines running parallel to each other (six I think, about 8 m apart each), or it could have been some old winery vine trusses I guess. Also found some deer style fences. Think
Will inquire with NPWS when the local officer is available about what the area had previously been used for.
After 'Finding Fame' I went on and after a short hunt found Infamy Very Happy

1210 This took a bit of navigation. There are multiple fences, of the type to keep kangaroos out, or in (if coming from the East). Cool But I will try to post a photo of the .klm file/track which shows the different way in, to the way out, as there is ways around, or places the fence is down.
While I had a decent GPSr I had forgotten the camera, and only had the phone, so apologies for the quality of the shots. Embarassed
The original coordinates for the Trig Point will get you to the ridge, Shame on you but the Trig is at the coordinates above. WELL, now I can say "I have found FAME!" Now just need to find "Wheel of Fortune" TP near Wagga Wagga.
Have added some incentive for others to find this TP Clapping
