A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Sophoutloud and I set out to get a few trigs up the Putty Road from home on a beautiful winters day. Made it to this one right on sunset and the last of the day. Concrete pillar still stands strong but plastic mast is pretty melted from fire. 4wd track in was pretty good as it has been cleared recently.

Well it took 2 goes to complete this 1 – 1st go I knew I would run out of time so today I returned after work to complete before the big wet came. Came in on Mellong Range Trail & did the 8km drive – track ok as it had been cleared – bulldozed not long ago. Very sandy track – I had no problems – nice enjoyable drive to trig. Drove to trig & took the shots – fire has come through here last summer – trig shows more scars for it. I took the straight line south to putty road as time was getting away from me & this track is 4WD only – so pick your tracks carefully coming here. I added six map trig details as I found the old trig here too. Many thanks again to rogerw3 & whitemushroom for the info – hard work & find. Clan Griffin

On a trig wandering day with rogerw3 ...

A turn off to the Howes Range Fire Trail with a rough and ready climb to start, the GeoReindeer baulked eventually at a sandy patch - moreso the 'mushroom - at halfway of the 5 km out. A dedicated 4x4 should go all the way out without too much difficulty.

Abandoning the vehicle it was for a pleasant enough walk up the hill to this somewhat battered trig with fallen mast and vanes and removed name plate.

Found today with Whitemushroom on our Trig hunt northward.

A short walk along the fairly good track, with care and a 4WD you could drive almost to the trig but areas of very fine soft sand could prove to be a problem.

This one has suffered from the bush fires and the name plaque has been stolen recently.
