I am over from Australia visiting my sister for a week before the mega event. Well I just knew as soon as I saw the rock that if it was climable there would have to be a cache there, and of course on checking my database there it was. My sister had climbed it once before so I knew what to expect, but yesterday afternoon when I was driving up 2 fire engines came down the hill, and at the parking area were 3 police cars and an ambulance. So figuring something might be going on I thought it might not be the best time to add to their problems, though I guess emergency services would have been on hand if needed.
Returned this morning to see a French guy who had just come down turn around to re-ascent. He had already done 6 trips up and down and managed a couple more before leaving. Now that's dedication (or being too cheap to pay for a gym). Anyway I made my way, using a technique I have learned in a career that involved roof access and tower climbs - just concentrate on the task at hand and what you have to do next rather than looking around and admiring the view - and seeing where you actually are. In fact it wasn't that bad and I was soon at the top enjoying the view.
Definitely worth the climb up if you are fit enough to do it and the weather is good, it would be nasty if wet or windy.
