Gallery of log for Mount Dandenong Trigonometric Station
When we left Tasmania just under three weeks ago we had a series of challenges to complete. Completing the requirements for Finding Centroid Mission was not among them as we had to find Dragonzone caches in 23 separate local government zones. Some of these areas had no Dragonzone caches. Things changed after a week caching in The ACT were our finds moved our caching centre north to such an extent that we only needed to find caches in eleven local government areas, three in NSW the rest in Vic.
After a few tweeks to our route south we were able to find caches in the three NSW area. By the time the Alexandra Event had finished we only needed to find a cache in three areas - Nillumbik, Whittlesea and The Yarra Ranges. Today was the day to try and find the three caches we needed.
The Mount Dandenong Trigonometric Station was our first port of call. After paying our $6 entry fee we made our way to the restaurant where we spotted this unique trig marker. We had a chat to the manager behind the counter and he was happy for us to take the requisite photo. There were no other customers at the time so this may have helped. Photos taken we headed outside to collect the data for the nearby Earth cache and to explore the 360 degree views avĂ ilable from the observation deck.
It is well worth a visit to The Dandenong Tower for the views, the walks, the unique art works but most of all for the unique trig point. We now have a find in the Yarra Ranges and only have two local government areas to visit.
