Gallery of log for Western Creek Falls

04-Jul-10
I learnt about glacial hanging valleys 30 years ago in geography and I was amazed to see Western Creek Falls were a classical example of the falls associated with these valleys. The waterfall was reasonably full after the two weeks of virtual constant rain and the crystal clear days that we enjoyed on our walk up to Norms Shack allowed us to enjoy the falls to their best. The lunch break of our trip was organised to occur at these falls and the Eyrettes luxuriated on the warm rocks while the sun beat against them as water tumbled down into Western Creek proper. Of course finding the cache made the break ever so more satisfying and the Eyrettes were so pleased with the find that they left a matchbox car in the container for no swap. A true compliment Sirius!

We followed the recommended path in and found it to be a bit rugged so we were left wondering just how challenging the lower western path would have been. We left a fair bit of tape along the trail especially at the entrance and exits across the rock rivers so that the Eyrettes and other walkers could easily find their way back home.

Crossing the falls along the wire hand guide was the most exhilarating and frightening adventure that LilEyre has had so far in her short life of walking but now after a day rest after the walk she seems to think it was one of the highlights of the trip.

We loved finding these falls and were literally thrilled to cross the falls half up from the bottom. Thanks for placing this cache in an impressive place Sirius.
