Gallery of log for PYO

25-Jan-13
The Turners Beach Berry Patch, near Ulverstone, began about ten years ago and has developed rapidly over the years. One of us taught the son of the owners and it was interesting to learn about their use of tissue culture for cultivation, growing beds and plant replacement, and varietal trials. In the Tasmanian Fruits Farm Gate Guide, the Berry Patch is described as “Tasmania’s largest strawberry and raspberry PYO area”. Other berries available are tayberries, thornless blackberries, marionberries and boysenberries. The photo added to the gallery is a composite of four images: one of us can be seen standing next to a mural while holding some strawberries we have picked and a strawberry icecream; the advertisement from the Tasmanian Fruits Farm Gate Guide; a photo of the most recent development, raised strawberry beds for easier picking, especially for the elderly; and a price list showing strawberries for $10.50/kg PYO ($14.00/kg otherwise) and raspberries for $12.00/kg PYO only.
