Description

Recently on a a trip to New Zealand's South Island I saw many opportunities  to pick my own fruit or vegies which always seem to taste a lot better that bought or prepackaged ones. There were even opportunities to dig you own potatos, pick your own Christmas tree etc.

To log this cache you need to upload a photo of a pick your own business that you come across. Let's see how many things there are out there to gather for ourselves. You need the sign, coords and if possible a picture of the crop.

Happy picking.

I was heading home after looking for caches in the Deloraine area when I saw a sign directing me to this PYO Blue Berry Farm. As it was only 1km off the Meander Valley Road I did the detour to get the required photo. I was not able to get a photo of the crop although from the number of cars parked inside there appeared to be a number of people picking. Very Happy

We went on a family outing with our grandchildren to Chambers Flat, Logan City Queensland to the Strawberry Farm to pick strawberries. It was a very enjoyable fun day. The 4 grandies hadn't seen strawberries growing before. Before long we had filled our punnet and then stopped to have a strawberry icecream. TFTC. Clan MinotaurClan Minotaur

It is the season for PYO - cherries/ blueberries/ raspberries/ strawberries. We picked some blueberries for $12/kg on the East coast of Tasmania. There was 4 of us and we came away with 3.7kg of fruit in a very short time of picking.

I was driving out of Bundaberg towards the Meadowvale reserve to find a new cache that was in there somewhere. As I turned on to the Bundaberg Rosedale road I spied the sign on the corner. Did not stop on the way up but on the way back. This little paddock is right next to the stall and the retail crop is on the other side of the stall.

Will grow, pick n' eat satisfy the pick n' eat requirement? I immediately thought of this cache when I spotted this Brigitta variety of blueberry at my parents' house.
(happy to change to a note if this doesn't meet the requirement)

The Granite Belt in Southern Queensland centered mainly between Warwick and Wallangara on the New England Highway is know nationally for grapes, Wine production, stone fruits, Berries and of course apples. There are numerous trucking companies in the area as well as fruit processing facilities. Very popular area for back packers. I saw this sign for PYO Strawberries after October.

These pick your own strawberries are on the way to Richmond, Tassie. I didn't actually know of them, but was driving this way NW. The picture catches your eye, but I reckon the strawberry season has just finished.

The Turners Beach Berry Patch, near Ulverstone, began about ten years ago and has developed rapidly over the years. One of us taught the son of the owners and it was interesting to learn about their use of tissue culture for cultivation, growing beds and plant replacement, and varietal trials. In the Tasmanian Fruits Farm Gate Guide, the Berry Patch is described as “Tasmania’s largest strawberry and raspberry PYO area”. Other berries available are tayberries, thornless blackberries, marionberries and boysenberries. The photo added to the gallery is a composite of four images: one of us can be seen standing next to a mural while holding some strawberries we have picked and a strawberry icecream; the advertisement from the Tasmanian Fruits Farm Gate Guide; a photo of the most recent development, raised strawberry beds for easier picking, especially for the elderly; and a price list showing strawberries for $10.50/kg PYO ($14.00/kg otherwise) and raspberries for $12.00/kg PYO only.

Hi corunnaroad
This PYO sign is on the top of Peninsula Hill near Eagle Hawk Neck on the Tasman Peninsula not far from Port Arthur.
Similar signs are reasonably common throughout Tasmania, particularly toward the end of what ever fruit season it may be.
In this case it was strawberries. Others include raspberries, apples and cherries. Unfortunately, this farm was out of the pick your own fruit at the time these photos were taken.
