Gallery of log for Dooleys Heritage Trail #10 - Northern Gates

25-Sep-13
Since Sirius Tas published the next six Dooleys Heritage Trail caches we have wanted to visit. The Wilmot River Valley is one of our favourite walking spots because there is so much variety and the character of each area seems to change for every visit we make. Finally the "stars came into alignment" - no personal commitments and the promise of reasonable weather (occasional showers only). We headed off from the Groove Creek car park at 8:30am and were at the Wilmot River by 8:50am. We thought that we would get wet rear ends on the way down because of a large log over the track (we used to sit on the log to get over it). However, the hand of Sirius Tas was evident as part of the log had been removed to make an easy walkway - we really appreciate the track clearing. We were a little surprised at the river - the water level was still rather high but it was flowing quite sedately, not with the ferocity during our previous visit. It was a pleasant along the river flats until we came to a rather steep climb leading to this cache. The recent rain and loose gravel made the track a little slippery but, with care, we got to GZ without any difficulties. Accurate coordinates led to a quick find - FTF at 9:30am. The cache and it's contents were in good condition. Thanks Sirius Tas for another great cache in a wonderful series.
