Logs for Diggles & Liggles

This lighthouse is on South Manitou Island, the only natural harbor in Lake Michigan from Chicago to the Straits of Mackinaw (according to the plaque--we have a hard time believing this!). A lighthouse was first established here in 1839, although the one in the photo wasn't built until 1872. It was deactivated in 1967.
South Manitou Island is owned by the National Park Service and reachable by ferry from Leland, Michigan. If you time your visit right, you can take a guided lighthouse tour.

We went for a walk on South Manitou Island, in Lake Michigan off the coast of Leland, MI. The island isn't very big and doesn't have many motorized vehicles, but we found two tiny, tiny turtles squashed in tire tracks. As we walked closer to the lake, we found and rescued probably a dozen more half-dollar sized turtles. They sure were cute! A little ways past where this photo was taken, the road turned from gravel to sand, and we saw the holes where the turtles hatched.
Thanks for the fun cache!

This is Sleeping Elephant Mtn (9600 ft) in Roosevelt National Forest, Colorado. We had to look about half a dozen times before we finally saw the sleeping elephant. Thanks for the fun hunt!

This is the dam at Whipple Dam State Park, not too far from State College, PA. This approximately 15' tall dam creates a 22 acre lake for swimming, boating, and fishing. We went here today to see the stocked fish. Poor little trout...I wish they could smarten up before the opening day of trout season next weekend!

Neat one! I knew a little bit about the history and military uses of GPS, but know I feel like I can explain it to friends without sounding like (much of) a doofus. And the certificate is oh-so-cool!
P.S.--I don't know about that resident in Boulder, CO...
