Cache replaced in new hiding spot close to the original.

24-Nov-24
#15,503. I am rather partial to a rum and coke so solving this one looked like it might be fun. But no it needs better vision than I have so off to the solver I go. Soon had the numbers and swung by here on the way back from a trip to the Hutt Valley. I have found plenty of these types of hides and they can be tricky when people are around. But today it was surprisingly quiet. So soon had the cache in hand, signed and replaced. Thanks TDronsfield for the cache.

Well the cache hiding area looked very different to how I remember it. No mown path, no old tree stump, just a jungle of rushes and fern and wet boggy ground. Have shifted the hiding place to an easier to reach location. Just off the grass area. No need to cross the ditch. New container in place. Slight adjustment made to the multi so if you have solved it you will need to change a couple of numbers.

#15,501. Decided to have another go at this one after getting a hint about the type of place it was hidden. I had searched those areas last time but oh well I will have another look. Couldn't believe it. Had the cache in hand in about 30 seconds in the second place checked. Clearly did not do a proper job last week. Anyway its still there. Signed the logsheet and replaced as found. No dog poop nearby either. Thanks Conradk007 for hiding it here.

#15,502. This is an interesting reserve. Not been here before. Think you are doing a bush walk and then suddenly you are in an open park area. Anyway reached GZ and went all around looking in the usual spots. Nothing there. Searched a bit wider. Still nothing. Read past logs and sensed it was a very tricky hide. So put my bag down at the closest point to GZ and searched very carefully in spots that did not look possible for hiding a cache. Nothing. Then checked the last remaining spot - under my bag. You can guess the answer. Wow that is well hidden. Nicely tucked away. Signed the logsheet and returned where found. Thanks DevLuna for the very tricky cache and the nice hiding are. Will give it a favourite.

Well I spent ages looking here. Saw nothing that caught my attention unlike the previous finders. Looked around a heap of trees. Nothing. Quite a steep slope once you are off the track. There is a big slip across the other side of the dry channel. So did not check on that side. Oh well for every DNF avenged there has to be another one gifted.

#15,504. This was another of the challenge caches located on a wet day back on 26 Oct while visiting Dunedin for the GeoToroa Mega event. Checking the qualification today. Thanks Wilbywarrior for the cache. Looks like I have found more of them than I realised.[GSEL](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=GSEL) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GCA2R1Z/79542 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did."Traditional Tuesday Challenge - find 100 trads on Tuesdays" Qualifying 724 / 100, PASSED

#15,496. This was another one found and signed on a very cold and wet day on 26 Oct. As Infoferret described we had a teamwork day with both of us taking turns to find caches while they other one tried to warm up in the car. #15,497. I visited the Octagon during my recent trip to Dunedin. In fact passed through it a few times as we were staying nearby. However only once went for a walk around to see the various features and do some geocaches in that area. This was one of them. Thanks Wilbywarrior for placing your virtual cache here in the heart of the city. Have sent my answers by message board. Cheers GSEL

Looks like it has gone missing again for third time. I will try and get up there in the next month to see if its worth replacing or archiving.

#15,494. Managed to get back into town today for a day in the office so had to attend this event being just around the corner. And of course a chance to witness the transformation of the arm on IF. Thanks for organising this gathering. My second visit to this establishment this week. Good to catch up with the usual suspects and a few new geocaching friends. Cheers.

#15,492. I found and signed the cache back on 25 Oct during the Mega weekend. Catching up on cache finds and checking to see if I qualified. #15,490. After a wet morning, the sun finally came out so I headed over to the Hutt Valley for mid-afternoon geocaching excursion. I was not sure if I would have any luck here as it seems to take a few searches to find. But I concentrated around two main objects and finally noticed something suspicious and yep there was the cache. Good one. Signed and replaced the log and the cache as found. Thanks BigSteveOK for placing it here. Deserves a favourite.

#15,491. After a wet morning, the sun finally came out so headed over to the Hutt Valley for mid-afternoon geocaching excursion. This was an interesting puzzle cache as I was unaware of how knitting could be used to make coded messages. But as explained it does make sense as it has a pattern with binary options. As for solving the puzzle that took people with more skill than me but I admired their patience and happily accepted the given information. Fairly quick find here today in a busy street. Signed and replaced the cache as found. Thanks NZ_B for placing it here.

DNF for me as well. Lots of leaf litter and wet mucky holes in trees. I used a stick as I expected to hit dog poo at some stage but surprisingly didn't. Probably there somewhere but don't really like these types of hiding areas close to paths used by dog walkers. Placed above the dog pee zone on the fence might be a better option.

Scoresheet updated. Some new heavy hitters have joined the home team and The Wandering Dragons, barefootguru and LrenNZ slip back to the reserve bench. Appeals to the 3rd umpire allowed if the on-field umpire has missed something.

#15,488. After a wet morning, the sun finally came out so headed over to the Hutt Valley for mid-afternoon geocaching excursion. The toilet block is a rather interesting hiding area. Luckily you don't need to enter the premises as the two halves (men and woman) would exclude some cachers. Fairly quick find and the log signed. Rolling it back up took ages. That is slippery paper. Thanks marryallthepeople for placing it here.

#15,487. After a wet morning, the sun finally came out so headed over to the Hutt Valley for mid-afternoon geocaching excursion. The river was up nearby and there were pools of water under the bridge. But the cache was quickly spotted and the log signed. Thanks marryallthepeople for placing it here.

#15,489. After a wet morning, the sun finally came out so headed over to the Hutt Valley for mid-afternoon geocaching excursion. I should have read the past logs before trying for this one but the cache title suggested a particular type of hide so figured it would be easy. But the coordinates had me across the road where there was nothing that matched the cache title or hint. So crossed back to where I parked the car and now saw the cache (missed in my initial glance before crossing the road). Needed a tool in the car to get the log out. Signed and replaced the log and the cache as found. Thanks marryallthepeople for placing it here.

The old cache was still there but had fallen onto the ground and was just in reach. But the mint tin had rusted out. So removed the logsheet and put it inside a pill container. Removed the old mint tin. Cache back in the hinted position. You might need to lie down and stretch your arm up to reach it.

Well I sat elsewhere and watched a muggle for quite a while before they moved on. Then checked their seat and the one nearby. No sign of any container. Then back to check the type of seats I had been sitting on. Still nothing. Hmm. Not sure if its me or its dropped off again.

#15,480. I enjoy visiting this building each time I go to Dunedin. It is certainly an iconic building and well worth having as a virtual cache to highlight the old station. The plaque itself took some finding as I thought it must be inside but nope its outside and accessible at any time. Good to see some New Zealand literature highlighted on the plaque. Thanks central otago hilton for placing it here.

#15,440. Having been looking for caches in areas where dogs were not allowed to be, my friend was getting very keen to give her hound a run and Rough Island is a dog walking zone. So we parked up and had lunch. Then her kelpy went for a full speed and enthusiastic run about meeting various dogs and sniffing out the scenery. We walked along the path grabbing a few caches along the way. This was one of them. Man I am so cache blind. I looked at the correct spot at least twice. Then my friend came over and had a look and found it immediately! Signed the logbook and left it as found Thanks holymu for hiding it here.

#15,436. I came out to Rabbit Island with my muggle friend to walk to the cache on the nearby island at low tide. But two problems. She brought her dog and dogs are not allowed on Rabbit Island. Also it was far more muddy than expected. So we gave up on that idea. I also needed to find an older multi today that had the size listed as not chosen and there were some on this track. But the same problem. It had the no dogs sign. Anyway we quickly walked through to the bridge and gathered information although could not see EFG on the board (fortunately not needed). Then did this one on the way back. Excellent coordinates helped. Soon spied something interesting and had the cache in hand. Very clever and worth a favourite from me. Thanks bumandworker for hiding it here.

#15,445. Getting close to time now to drive me to the airport but still had a bit of time left to do a few more on the way back to Nelson. We parked and wandered through to GZ. My friend spied the container in an unexpected location. Signed the logbook and left the container as found. Have dropped off a trackable that wants to head south to Otago. Thanks SoBad for hiding it here.

#15,437. Nice quick find here by my muggle friend who loves geocaching when I visit Nelson but doesn't have the time to chase them when I am not around. Anyway she located this one and we had it signed and returned as found. Thanks SoBad for the history lesson as well on the cache page.

#15,438. We were now heading to Rough Island to walk my friend's dog but had time to park nearby and have a look for this one. Noticed it had a few DNF's and only one recent find. At GZ it all became quite clear. The tall flax and long grass made it near impossible to spot any stump. But my friend is determined and eventually unearthed the rotting stump. I probed in deep into the flax and suddenly felt the cache. Signed the logsheet and we left the container tucked under the decaying wood just outside the flax bush. Thanks esquimaux for hiding your cache here.

#15,433. I came out to Rabbit Island with my muggle friend to walk to the cache on the nearby island at low tide. But two problems. She brought her dog and dogs are not allowed on Rabbit Island. Also it was far more muddy than expected. So we gave up on that idea. I also needed to find an older multi today that had the size listed as not chosen and there were two on this track. But the same problem. It had the no dogs sign. Anyway we quickly walked through to here and did this one while collecting info for the multi. Fairly quick find. Signed and replaced where found. Thanks Marchwood for hiding it here.

Two of us spent 5-10 minutes here reaching up and around in areas that seemed to match the hint. But nothing could be felt. Oh well. Maybe another day.

#15,439. Yes it is under the trees and I searched all around, read some past logs and was close to giving up when my muggle friend called out "found it". In a spot I had already looked!! Man I am so cache blind. Once the GPS settled it was just 4m from the given coordinates. Anyway signed the logbook and left it as described in the hint. Thanks Sidewaze for hiding it here.

#15,443. After the walk I noticed there was an adlab stage out here and also a traditional cache. So we drove around and wandered over to find Meg's Hide-A-Way. My friend spotted it before I had even got to GZ. Signed the logbook and left the container as found. Thanks andy.gail and Meg for hiding it here.

#15,442. Walked through to the grove of trees with horses being ridden in the adjacent field. I was looking too high. My friend was not bound by my same cache blind limitations and searched in other places and spotted it lower than expected. Signed the logbook and left the container as found. Thanks Sidewaze for hiding it here.

#15,446. Having been looking for caches in areas where dogs were not allowed to be, my friend was getting very keen to give her hound a run and Rough Island is a dog walking zone. Getting close to time now to drive me to the airport but still had a bit of time left to do a few more on the way back to Nelson. We parked and walked right past it. I returned and spotted something a bit different. Cool hide and gets a favourite from me. Signed the logbook and left the container as found. Thanks andy.gail for hiding it here.

#15,447. Having been looking for caches in areas where dogs were not allowed to be, my friend was getting very keen to give her hound a run and Rough Island is a dog walking zone. Getting close to time now to drive me to the airport. This was lucky last for my latest Nelson trip. Spent a few minutes avoiding blackberry and searching in the dense foliage and long grass. Was close to giving up when I felt it. Signed the logbook and left the container by the nearest post. Thanks elliot13 for hiding it here.

#15,441. The hint saved a lot of scratches and by searching on both sides my friend spied the cache. The lid is damaged however. Signed the logbook and left the container upside down to keep out the rain. Thanks beltfamily for hiding it here.

Found the tree hut. Found a rock with hollow area under it. But no cache. Wonder if its been muggled or we were cache blind. We did spend 10 minutes searching all around objects that could be connected to the hint.

#15,432. I came out to Rabbit Island with my muggle friend to walk to the cache on the nearby island at low tide. But two problems. She brought her dog and dogs are not allowed on Rabbit Island. And the route we planned looked way too muddy. Might be better approached from the west but we decided to save it for another trip and maybe use kayaks to get over to it. So instead decided to do this nearby multi. Soon had the information extracted from the display board and off to find it. It did not take long at GZ to find the container. Signed and replaced where found. Thanks andy.gail for hiding it here.

#15,422. Second time a treat for me as I found one of the other caches hidden here in the past. Glad I checked to see if any were nearby while my friend stopped to make a phone call. A quick search and it was soon in hand. Thanks Stretch0 for the cache.

#15,428. Came down here today to look for Yellow Circles but decided to brave the wind and carry on along the track so my friend could tire out her dog. This is certainly a special feature of the region and a nice coastal walkway. Soon found the cache and the freshly maintained logbook. Thanks bumandworker for highlighting the history of this pathway. Its now popular with bike riders rather than car drivers.

#15,431. After finding Yellow Circles, we headed towards town and soon diverted off the main road to look for this one. I think I used basic logic to solve this riddle going through the possible options until only one met all the criteria. My muggle friend, who geocaches when I am visiting Nelson, remembered finding another cache near here and stopped to see if this one was hidden in the same spot. Well not quite. But she found the old cache which had fallen onto the ground. So the archived cache was still waiting to be found, now up higher again. On a little bit to find this one and I spied it hanging nearby. Soon had the logsheet signed. Thanks GadgetCacheNZ for hiding the mystery cache here.

#15,429. Came down here today to look for Yellow Circles but picked this one up on the way back. Yes the stile does seem rather odd and unnecessary. My friend and I lay down to check the two sides of the feature and I happened to put my hand on it first. Soon had the freshly maintained logbook signed and cache returned as found. Thanks bumandworker for hiding a cache here.

#15,430. After finding Yellow Circles, we headed towards town and soon diverted off the main road to look for this one. I walked in too far. My muggle friend, who geocaches when I am visiting Nelson, turned and called out found it. She has much sharper eyes than me. Soon had the logsheet signed. Thanks Tohwehuyane for hiding a cache here.

#15,427. Well the last two finders tell my story. Like Itchyfeet I needed some multi not chosen caches for the same Wellington challenge. Like the DutchKiwis I had checked street view and found nothing but the history tab is still useful. And yes just one number works as well. So I had been to a friends place to drop off my field gear. She doesn't "officially" geocache but she enjoys looking for them when I visit Nelson and so off we went. We reached GZ and it seemed like only one place was suitable. My friend is happy to crawl in and under spaces I am a wuss about. So it did not surprise me to hear her say "found it" before I had even got my daypack removed and about to start the serious looking. Signed the logbook for Yellow Circles and replaced as found. Thanks bumandworker for the cache.
