Logs for Pathfinder33

Stopped to grab this one on our way home from Geowoodstock. Cache was in great shape, no snakes near it today that we could find.

This was the entire goal of the trip today. We learned a few lessons here. 1. The GPS is not ALWAYS right. 2. The shortest route is not always the fastest route. 3. When previous logs say there is a trail leading right to it, seek that trail out before you get there! So our adventure begins....We left Las Vegas for this cache at 5:30 AM. Cached along the way and turned off the highway at Joes Valley and headed north about 4 PM. The GPS turned us off of Miller Flat Rd (which is the main road) and sent us up Potter Canyon Rd. This was the where lesson 1 comes in. Potters Canyon Rd is shorter, but not by much when compared to Miller Flat Road. However we found that at roughly N 39° 24.853 W 111° 16.295 the road is washed out by a recent flash flood. That put us about 3.5 miles to the cache along the road. So instead of going back to the GPS and looking for another road, we park........and walk. 3.4 miles to the cache along the road, this would be lesson #2...... It was over a 1,000 foot gain in elevation on the walk. Not usually an issue for me, but one of the guys with us on the adventure was not so keen on it. So we took frequent breaks along the road. We finally get up to the ponds, and down by the bathroom between campgrounds 16 and 17. Well we didn't find it, so we decided to venture across the creek and head up the hill bushwhacker style, this is lesson 3........ We come across the killer swarm of skeeters that go into attack formation kamikaze style. They came in hard and fast and attempted to steal all my sweet meat and carry me off into the woods. But I got them beat down as best I could as I went up the hill. We finally came across the cache, and found SWAG scattered all over the place. I handed the cache out to LolosDream and then decided to clean up the area. We got names on the log, I dropped a TB, picked up a few, then placed the cache back better than I found it. We did find the trail and walked down it back to the campground. Then when we got to the bottom I marked a way-point. The trail head is N 39° 27.111 W 111° 16.431, so next cachers be smarter than I was. We then were faced with a 3.5 mile hike back to the car. Luckily for me we ran into a guy named Chris that had a 93 TJ and gave us a ride back down to where the washout was. We thanked him for the ride, and walked across all the logs and rocks, and made it back to the car. Thankful for the ride so we didn't have to hike we all took a deep breath, started the car and headed out for the next adventure. TFTC!
