Cape Neddick Light, popularly known as the Nubble, is one of the most photographed, illustrated and readily identifiable lighthouse on the eastern seaboard. Located in York, Maine. Built in 1879, the original tower still stands. It is 88 feet from mean high water, and 41 feet from the ground to the center of the beacon--an equal interval red flash every 6 seconds, visible for 13 miles and accompanied by a foghorn. Current illumination is a 1000-watt bulg inside a forth order Fresnel lens, which are the most common on the Maine coast.
