Logs for bucknuts

###Gnomecat wanted to go to Utah to get Potters Pond and some of the other older caches in the Salt Lake City Area. So I was able to get my schedule cleared and off we flew to SLC. Initially my flight was delayed about an hour which then he was able to go get the Jeep Wrangler rental. I land and off we go for the 4+ hour drive south to Wah Wah. We get there and find the cache and then on the way back an alarm goes off in the car. Slow tire leak...yikes. It should have 43lbs and it's now down to 28lbs. Well we made it to Milford with 17lbs where we were spending the night. Got the tire plugged and changed out for the rest of our trip.###
###The next morning we head to Little Creek Stash and get that done by 8am and now off to Potters Pond. We took the southern route from Emphiriam. We took Emphiram Canyon Road for 24 miles and then another 5 miles on Potters Canyon Road. This trek took over 2 hours. It was beautiful, the area was full of bow elk hunters. If you are in a hurry don't take this route come from the north. You will need a 4x4 vehicle this way, high clearance and preferrable 10ply tires. Get to Potters Pond and make the hike to the cache and celebrate my triple jasmer accomplishment. One the way out the forest was on fire and chasing us down the hill quickly. Get to the main road and realize it was a control burn...still very scary when you are that close to it. Then after that we head to Beaver Stash. Once again over 20 miles on logging roads each way, this cache gets found about 6 times a year and it was a great view. I did leave my reading glasses there so if the next cachers find them if they can contact me I would appreciate it. From there we head to Lehi for the night and ordered a pizza to the room and relaxed.###
###Next morning we head West to Clover Stash and we got there right a sunrise. From there onto Pony Express where I tried to leave my GPS, but discovered it missing before we got too far away. Now back to the Metro area where we found some virtuals and some wherigos before heading out to dinner with gnomecats relatives. Had an amazing dinner and spent the night new the airport as we head out in the morning.###
###Wake up and have breakfast and the news is that 3000+ acres on fire and zero percent contained. Whew, sure glad we were heading out now. It was blistering hot on the trip as the temps were in the uppper 90s. I was able to leave my signature bucknuts pencil in the majority of the caches on this trip. For the virtuals I will send the answers for the two of us and post pictures with my log. Thanks for all the hiders for maintaining these older caches in the area and glad to get this done when you can before the snow starts flying again (we did see snow). Thanks for the cache-signed log.###

###The Bride and I had weddings in Kansas City on June 21st and then another one in Omaha on June 29th. I told her I really wasn’t interested in driving to Kansas City and driving home for 9 hours and then a few days later drive all the way back same direction for 13 hours. So we decided we would take a mini vacation in between weddings and head to Colorado for a week. We rented a car, but little did we know the car was going to be a Cadillac sedan, and I’m thinking this is going to be my caching mobile for this trip.###
###So over the course of the 11 days, we visited 10 states. I was able to get 5 caches that were Year 2000 including Mingo. I was able to get the oldest cache in 3 states…Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico. Colored the state of New Mexico RED and put 3940 miles on the rental car. ###
###This trip started out in Kansas City as the wedding was on Friday. So we cached the morning of Friday and did the Powercat challenges near Gladstone area. Loved walking the sidewalk, we did get a downpour on us, so hoped into a local spot for lunch and then once the rains lifted we went hiking again. Then went to the wedding on Friday night. Then next day on Saturday, went caching with Gnomecat, Louinliberty and Debrajean grabbing a few caches that I had handpicked out. Was great to see my KC friends for the 2nd weekend in a row after the previous week in Indiana and by the end of this trip it will be 3 weeks in a row. Had an amazing dinner at Gnomecats and enjoyed the great hospitality. ###
###Then on Sunday June 23 is where the journey begins. We headed towards Colorado Springs and grabbed Mingo on the way there. This day was about 9 hours of driving and grabbed a few caches in the Colorado Springs area before meeting up with friends in the afternoon.###
###Monday June 24 was always going to be a big day both driving and hiking. We started it off by going to Paul Barkley (2nd 2000 year cache). Got lucky as that section of the park was closed to people on Tuesday due to electric work being done. Then from there the Cadillac took us to Geocache (3rd 2000 cache). Then after that we headed to Albuquerque, New Mexico.###
###Tuesday June 25 we cached in Albuquerque in the morning doing a few wherigos and then headed over to the oldest cache in the state. Found the place to park and made the short hike up the hill. Then went across the way and did the Hangman hiking series. After we completed that we headed to Santa Fe to visit and then back to Colorado Springs.###
###Wednesday June 26th, we got up and headed off to Tarryall (4th 2000 year), those that get nervous about driving well the Cadillac made it just fine. After that we headed to Pikes Peak, it opened late because the car race practice was that morning. We drove up to mile 16 and then shuttle to the top because of the renovations to the new visitor center at top. After this we are now heading back East. We get to Kansas and find Airakee and then spend the night in Kearney. I was able to watch on the phone Vanderbilt win the World Series…Go Vandy Boys###
###Thursday June 27, drive to Omaha and meet the KC crew for the 3 week in a row and we drive to Sioux Falls to get the State Bird.###
###Friday June 28th, finish the last 21 of the Ficks Fizzy we had left. Bad news was on #61 Gnomecat fell in the ditch and went over his head in the water. The ditch had probably 8ft of water. Then headed to Omaha and did some challenges and parted ways###
###Saturday June 29th, some light caching before wedding and then came home on Sunday 13.5 hour drive.###
###Thanks to all the hiders. Earthcaches and Virtuals have sent answers. Challenges will either have a picture or available via public profile. Was able to leave my signature pencil in a few caches. Thanks for the cache-signed log.###

###Celebrating Buckettes graduation at Disney. funny we brought her here when she was about 6 years old, now fast forward 16 years and she doesn't remember those trips. Had to get a picture so she won't forget after her next trip. Thanks for a fun virtual.###

###It’s winter in Iowa and time to get away and enjoy some sunshine and do some caching in a new place. So got a group of friends together and it was decided to make Texas our destination. The group consisted of louinliberty, debrajean, Hockabee, gnomecat, FWIA, Izzy, harvestmoon2 , Tentha, railroad, busterbabes, Baad Daata and me (bucknuts). Even though it’s winter in Iowa the temps are unseasonably warm as it is in the 60s and it was the same temps in Texas too. We did a lot of caching in the Austin area with some other caching to and fro Austin. What’s amazing about Austin is the wonderful Virtual caches that still exist. So refreshing to see them still active. Being from Des Moines it’s nice to visit another capital city, except I think I will take the Des Moines traffic over the Austin traffic. This trip did provide a new wrinkle for rental cars. The rental place ran out of the car we wanted so we had to rent a Toyota Prius. Good news is it gets amazing gas mileage; bad news is they don’t make a 4x4 version of that car. But I think busterbabes may become a spokesperson for Toyota and steal the Trail rating from Jeep with her amazing driving.###
###We did so many wonderful caches on this trip, but wanted to highlight a few of them. Doing the Texas Star was amazing and will be giving them all Favorite points. Doing the Riddle Series was an awesome 8 mile hike. Now a couple of those caches are sphincter testers for sure. That #8 is awesome!!! That is another series which I would highly recommend to anybody that doesn’t like P&G caches. Loved doing some of the Monkey power trail caching, except there came that point where I said I’m not jumping across that 4 lane highway with cars doing 70mph. We will go one direction and get the caches on that side of the road and then come back the other direction and get the caches on that side of the road. Another highlight was doing some of the local challenge caches in the area. I am fond of challenge caches as it recognizes those who have achieved a certain goal and challenges you (if you so accept the goal) to go and try something new. Then there was attending the local event and celebrating DrPhug 10k cache, BUT the awesome thing is we got to see the caching legend Clubmud. The good news is he is coming to Iowa in a few weeks and I get to cache with him again while he is here.###
###The weather cooperated, somewhat I should say. At first it looked like a couple of days were going to be downpours but the rain held off. Then there was that Austin Marathon that caused some traffic issues downtown on Sunday. But the crazy weather was the Tornado Warning that came through on Sunday night. Cell phone alarms going off and then the next thing you know is the hotel has no power. Kinda funny when power goes out in a hotel, being a cacher with a flashlight is a benefit as the other people staying had no light at all. It took about 12 hours for the power to be restored. We did see a lot of damage the next day at some of the carports, trees was uprooted; water flowing at a high rate in places and some homes were damaged. ###
###I was able to leave a few of my signature bucknuts pencils in some caches on this trip. Thanks to all the hiders for the wonderful caches and providing a much needed winter getaway. I have sent all the answers to the Virtuals to the cache owners or signed the verification page to certify my smiley.###
###This trip destination was the perfect balance of caching as it included power caching (road ditch jumping), hiking wonderful trails, doing challenge caches and learning local history through the vast amount of virtuals in the area. Texas becomes my 21st state with 100 finds and 11th state with over 1000 finds. Thanks for all the caches-stamped/signed logs--BN is for bucknuts.###

[blue]Another getaway winter trip and this year’s destination was Arizona, this year’s group consisted of Baad Daata, Hockabee, Ranger Fox, Gnomecats, Tentha, Johnny Rango, Railroad, ET42, ks_seltzer, Buggie Jenne, Ms. Birdie and me. I left Iowa for sunny Arizona to spend a long weekend hiking and caching. When I left Iowa it was in the single digits temps, Arizona was in the mid-80s, returned to Iowa to -30 degree wind chill. Looking at the Phoenix, Quartsite and Tucson area there were so many great caches to get but just not enough time to spend and do a lot of them.
We focused on a few power trails, then some trails which were definitely not power trails, challenges, earthcaches, virtuals, wherigos and some other targeted ones. So much Geoart near the Tucson area, but the only one we did the whole trip was Ms Pacman/Blinky. We did that hike in the desert along with the MMRP trail. As I was hiking the MMRP they were setting up for a 50km running race the next day. I thought to myself, heck I’m struggling hiking this thing I can’t imagine running 50km through here. Then on the way to the Ms Pacman, they were setting up for a road cycling race that day. I told the others that if I lived in Arizona I would never cache again as I would be cycling every day as that is where my passion lies.
One of the caches that I was excited to do was the oldest cache in the state of Arizona. One of my goals for the year was completing the Double Jasmer. When I started this year I had four more slots to fill my double Jasmer challenge. Now after 6 weeks into the year, I’ve cut it in half and down to the final two. I know which two I need to get it’s just a matter of getting them on my schedule now. This cache completed Baada Daata’s double Jasmer and it was awesome to be there to celebrate this with her. In addition to that celebration, we celebrated her birthday while on this trip.
As most of the cache owners suggest you are in the desert and need to be prepared. The one thing I needed more was sun screen as I got beat down for the first two days with the sun. The other thing is water or sports drinks. I think sports drinks are necessary for those long hikes that deplete your body of sodium and other electrolytes. The good news is that I did not see a snake the whole weekend, which was good as my hands and feet were certainly in ideal places for them to strike. Speaking of my feet, right before the trip my walking boots blew out on me so I had to wear my sons. After the first day, my feet had blisters and I was a hurting pup.
When doing some of the Virtuals in the Phoenix area, the one thing I don’t miss is traffic congestion on the interstate system like here. Holy Smokes, doing that drive every day and putting up with brake lights would drive me even crazier. One of my favorite highlights of this trip was doing a final of a wherigo and Hockabee and I decided to take a different route than the others. Of course, it was the wrong route and we ended up hiking up two mesas instead of one. Then the time where we decided once again to take a more direct route and it was up and over a mountain range when we could have just walked around it…those are what make the memories of a great trip like this.
As good as it was to see the sun and enjoy the warm weather, I’m just beat with all the hiking and caching I did during this trip. We stamped our names on the logs and some of the logs we wrote our names on them. Depending on room of some logs, we would abbreviate our names too (BN for me on those silly nano’s). I also left my signature [red]bucknuts pencil [blue]in some caches while doing a few.
We had our share of DNF’s on this trip which is to be expected. A big thank you to all the hiders for keeping the caches maintained and ready to be found. Thanks for the cache-signed log.

[blue]Last fall while caching in Watertown, SD we decided a trip out west to Nevada in February sounded good. I’ve made this trip for the past four years with BusterBabes and we started our planning with a group of 6 but ended with 16. Our group consisted of Fishwomania, HarvestMoon2, Debrajean, louinliberty, Hockabee, Baad Daata, tugies, GrandmaBetsy, tentha, Johnny Rango, D$R, BigG59, Kinny_K, Busterbabes, The Weasel, and bucknuts. We resurrected our former team name of KUMI except this time it was KUMI2 as it stood for Kansas, Utah, Missouri, Iowa and now Idaho. Only problem was we added an A for Arizona at the last minute but our stamps were already made. So wrote either KUMI, KUMI2, KUMI 2014 or some combination of such on the logs.
We went to Yerington, Nevada and while there noticed the new Eagle Geoart was published the day before. So we went out and FTF’d the 650 geoart. Whew that was a long day of hiking for sure. I would recommend for those doing this series is leather gloves as the sage brush is very prickly, lots of water, high vis clothing. At times you are nearly 3 miles from the road while doing this series. Cell service was better than expected, but we also had two-way radios with us just in case. Also did the trails in Yerington placed by Team Sagebrushers. Speaking of him, he had an event in Yerington while we were there and it was awesome to meet the locals and others that came. The fine folks at Cabin Fever gave us two choices for dinner and several choices of barley pops. Thanks so much for all the time and effort into the caches you placed around the area.
Fishwomania drove and took my bags and did a little planting of critters inside when I went to open my bags. Yikes…snakes, lizards, spiders and all kinds of creatures were awaiting me. She brought her new car along the RAV4 and it was awesome. The car handled the entire week great, did get dirty but a detail job cleaned her up nicely. At one point of the trip I became very concerned as FWIA had a blow up doll with her in bed and wasn’t sure what to expect.
Also did the last 1000 of the ET Highway that I hadn’t completed. While in the Rachel area did some of the Nvtriker caches. We ran into a string of those that were missing or I would say poached as it was too suspicious that they were all missing. Also did the Gauntlet Series along with the Eldorado Series…this one you definitely need a car with high clearance and good tires as the rocks which you drive over are large. I actually got bite while caching on the Eldorado series and initially thought it was a tick bite, but later think it was a red fire ant. That son of a gun bite hurt. After a few hours the pain subsided and I was okay. Also did the Route 66 Symbol, HDM Series and some of the SM Series. We did just enough of that SM Series to be a tease to want to come back and spend several days hiking around. It was awesome what we did do on the SM Series. We got some other caches along the way to here and there. The great news was zero sighting of any snakes while on this trip. Snakes and I don’t mix well and at times the weather was 80 degrees..
We stayed at the Yerington Inn while doing the caches in the Yerington, Nevada area and at Railroad Pass for the Vegas section. Crazy cheap and good breakfast across the street in Yerington…$1.99 for two eggs, hash browns, 2 links (my links went to Jackson), and toast.
Thank goodness we had Debrajean with us as she was the brains of the gpx files and organization to make sure we accomplished what we set out to do. Next trip here will probably be the SM Series for sure; more of the offshoots by the Eldorado Series and the Marine symbol which is very cool GeoArt.
We did several Earthcaches and Virtuals along the way and either FishwomanIa or Debrajean will send in the answers for our group.
Thanks for all the caches-signed most logs KUMI

[blue]Well it was the first weekend of what I'm sure will be many trips from Iowa to Alabama as Jr. begins his freshman year at the University of Alabama. We left on Friday and then got him into his room on Saturday. Then on Sunday, The Bride and I came all the way back with some caching along the way. Overall the trip didn't yield a lot of caches because we were so busy, but on the way home I was able to find one in all 6 six that we travel through and then made a last minute decision to take a detour and go over to Illinois to make it 7 states in one day.
Started out the day going for a couple of FTF's that might be available. Yikes went down this road, still not sure what it was if it was a logging road or what, but let me tell you The Bride was none too happy with me starting our day with this. Worked our way over to Tupelo Mississippi the birthplace of Elvis. Ironically, we were traveling through the weekend of his death 36 years ago. Then off to Memphis...the actual home of Elvis. Did the oldest cache in the state and a couple of others and on we went. Then grabbed one in Arkansas and off to Missouri. Grabbed a couple WIGs and was able to get The Arch. Then one of the biggest decisions on the long day was to detour over to Quincy Illinois to go to an event. That was way cool to meet so many new people. They were extremely nice to wait on me. Their event started at 1pm and I didn't get there until almost 3pm and there had to be still 20 of them hanging around. Started talking and find out that QYC knows Hill Folk....oh I'm so sorry for you QYC. So we gave Mrs. Hill Folk a call while there just to hear what excuse she had for not coming to Quincy to visit today. It's always going to be a classic. Tried my best to recruit others to come to the Kansas City Picnic this weekend as a strong probability that the event will become a MEGA. Then grabbed a couple of others in the Quincy area and started to head to Iowa. One last thing in Quincy...that city is okay in my books when you have one street named OHIO and the very next street named STATE. That folks is brilliant. Found a couple on the way home and stopped to eat.
It was good to get home to see Buckette the lone child now who will get all of our attention...oh lucky her. I'm hoping in future trips to get more caches than I got on this one, but I'm proud of the 7 states in one day. I was able to leave several of my signature [red]bucknuts pencils [blue]in caches. Thanks for all the great caches-signed log.
Oops almost forgot...of all things I leave a big dent in the rental car backing into a light pole in Alabama over the weekend.. Still not sure how I did that but one more thing for me to get in trouble for.

[blue]This cache was one of the main reasons for me to catch a flight from Iowa to Georgia for the weekend. Here with Blue Grass Tom. We went on a Seadoo wave runner ride for about 6 miles. BGT scared for a little bit to open it up, but he did get it up to 30mph. I have much experience but wanted to let him enjoy the drive. Cache was well hidden Georgia style as we quickly learned on the day. L-[red]bucknuts pencil [blue]Who stuck that Michigan sticker on that cache? I almost took it off. TFTC-SL
