Description
Take a photo of one of the exhibits at this location
On February 7 2009, on a hot and windy day, a deliberately lit fire came within 2 kilometres of the Bendigo CBD, destroyed 58 homes and took the life of a local resident. Catastrophic firestorms raged through much of the state. For many, this day will forever be remembered as Black Saturday.
This amazing monument has been erected as a quiet place of peaceful reflection for those who were directly impacted that day. Please be respectful of this as many of the locals remain deeply affected by the event.
Logs
this is a lovely spot to visit with a nice park, the impressive monument, and the mining history scattered in the area beyond. Often there is a coffee van here too, but not today. TFTC.
Today i decided to tackle some virtual type caches around town. i usually prefer physical caches but i have had a really enjoyable time finding trig points, virtuals, and history ones today.

Here for the Adventure Lab so stopped to grab this cache on the way.
Sad to read of the devastation with so many homes lost.
Bushfires are so catastrophic, and we are always pleased when summer ends and we have survived being burnt out as our small farm is near bushland.
Thanks The Morris, we probably wouldn't have stopped to check out this memorial if not for your cache.

We still remember when these fires happened - so long ago now.

On holidays touring around the area picking up random caches just had to stop by this site for good look around.
We remember this sad day so well, checking on ABC radio to track the fires that seemed to be all around us. We were fortunate that none got very close as others had in previous years.
Thanks The Morris for showing us this memorial.

Visiting Victoria Hill today we were saddened to read of the loss of life of Mick Kane and 58 homes to those horrific fires back in '07 but delighted to see such a fantastic memorial in honour of that horrible day.
Thanks The Morris for the virtual at this very important memorial site.

Stopped for a short break in Bendigo on our way home from Adelaide and Muggle Hubby took a photo for me here. What a delightful memorial.

My son was only about 6 weeks old when the fires ravaged the state. I could see smoke from my front door. This memory is etched in my mind.
As we travel around the country we have come across many memorials dedicated to people who suffered and people who worked tirelessly and selflessly to protect the community and to help the community in recovery from catastrophic natural disasters. The Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria impacted on so many parts of the state and the extent can be partially gauged by the number of very sensitive and significant memorials built in the aftermath. The Bendigo Bushfire Memorial is quite different to the majority we have had the privilege of seeing. To us it acknowledges the disaster but also the hope for the future in a serene and respectful way. Thanks The Morris for bringing us here today. There were no people in the immediate vicinity when we visited enabling us to take time to read the information and ponder the reflective art works. We also took a number of photos, one of which has been added to the Gallery for this cache.
Found on the Vic leg of our 2017 escape trip.
A perfect warm Spring day for a drive around in Bendigo again.
Hardly any muggles around today, in fact none around here.
Thanks for the cache The Morris,
Roostaman

Caching in the Bendigo area for a couple of days and these virtuals were on our hit list. Lots of cars about but no people, very peaceful. TFTC
Running a bit behind with GCA logs...
The Wench had an appointment just over the hill (no, not the castle looking place ) and we stopped here on our way back home.
Like other finders, I well remember that day. Not so much for the Bendigo events, but for the events further south and the enormous media coverage. Only a few hours after the Bendigo air was starting to slowly clear I was on a BRT (big red truck) heading into the Clonbinane area and a sight that will never fade - black and grey as far as the eye could see from the top of a big hill.
Our thanks to The Morris for helping keep these memories. They should never be forgotten.

Another nice location for a virtual cache. Keeps those who respect the memorial in mind and allows us to come and discover something that we did not know existed. A nice simple find for GabGab, Lady caughtatwork and I.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks The Morris for this cache here today.

We well remember this tragic event, the subsequent cleanup and rebuilds that have been going on right up to this day!
This is a magnificent monument that well depicts the savagery of the firestorm that swept into our city that day.
Thank you again The Morris for placing this tribute on to the geocaching circuit.
Cheers,
from Romax.
