Description

A webcam cache using the Signal Point/Alexandrina Council Webcam at the Goolwa wharf

This is a brand new public webcam that has been online less than a week at the time of making this virtual cache.

It is located at Signal Point, Goolwa and looks over the Goolwa wharf, Hindmarsh Island bridge, the Murray River and Hindmarsh Island.

The refresh rate is a default 1 frame per second (which is too quick for some connections) but the refresh rate can be changed at the bottom of the pic to something a bit more manageable for taking your picture from this webcam.

The camera is viewable at http://goolwawharf.alexandrina.com.au/cgi-bin/guestimage.html

WebCam  View from the webcam

To do this Virtual geocache, you will need:-

1. GPS or local knowledge.
2. Mobile phone and a friend/family with a net-connected computer and a phone.
3. Or an internet connected netbook/laptop on site
4. Willingness to have your picture posted here.

Call your geo family/friend and get them to access the webcam on the net (visit link).

Ask them to save the picture with you in it.

Upload the picture and attach it to your log when claiming a find. If you happen to take the picture during an event

and there are a crowd of people on the wharf you will need to point yourself out in the photo.

I do not own and have no control of this WebCam.

After a mercy dash to Gawler from Perth for 10 days for my sick mum. I was able to get down to Victor and Goolwa and whilst in Goolwa grabbed this virtual cache. The webcam is so clear
and what a great vista as well. Thanks for the cache and bringing me here Mundoo ClappingClan Minotaur

In 11+ years of finding geocaches, we have never logged a webcam cache until today.

We had called in to Hindmarsh Island earlier today, and decided to grab this one on our way home. The picture shows the J's standing at the sundial, grabbing a screencap on one of our phones. Mrs J actually has our GPSr in her hand, not that it's really visible in the image.

Thanks mundoo.

Today as we headed east on our way home, we detoured to Goolwa to complete the requirements for this webcam. Everything worked well and we soon had an image saved of Mrs y'stassie standing on the lawn near the railway line. That image has been added to the Gallery. Thanks mundoo for an enjoyable cache.

That's our geomobile... the red one over there on the right

Yep, I'm in the photograph in McPhan's log. We were meteorologically and technically challenged with this one. The rain forced us under the shelter to keep the tablet dry, which was in range of the wifi modem in the car, giving us connectivity to the webcam.

Thanks Mundoo.

843. Cold and wet windy wild day so we stayed under shelter while working the Surface to take the snap. Winglen is standing at the pole under the eave on the right of centre and I'm standing a bit in the shadows.

TFTC mundoo and the happy snap.

This is the 50th GCA find for WazzaAndWenches

Day six and our last day in Victor Harbor. Towards home tomorrow.
Today we're having a drive around the Goolwa and Murray Mouth areas.

The nearby Oscar W holds a special relationship for us. It was originally built in our home town of Echuca and made the trip down here many years ago. An upmarket restaurant overlooking the river back home carries the same name.

We stood out in the garden with the gps and the laptop for the obligatory photo. Made it back to the car just as the misty rain hit.

Thanks Mundoo. There are not many webcam caches and the only other one we have found to date has been at the university in Christchurch. I doubt it survived the quake.

I was working nearby and wanted to hop into Goolwa to look for a couple of gnomes hiding in Jekejere Park. I knew this was nearby and thought I might as well 'find' it.
I tried to do a screen capture on my iPhone but it was the first time I've tried and I don't think I had it right.
That called for a phone call to Mundoo (yes, the intrepid cache owner) to ask for her assistance.
Heard news of awful earthquake in Christchurch, NZ ( a city that significant meaning for both Mundoo and myself) but didn't realise just how bad it was.

FTF and have my picture taken under the web cam. The couple sitting on the terrace having a coffee must have wondered what I was doing while I rang home and talked through how to take the snap to David. I had set up the live cam view on my home computer before going into Goolwa and had the refresh set at 30 secs and had to wait until David said he could see me waving.

I am pleased there is another webcam on the south coast.
