Description

This is one of two webcams that have been placed on the Race Control tower of the Canberra Yacht Club. This one points in a north westerly direction and has the main part of Westlake and Black Mt in its field of view.

These webcams have been placed her to assist sailors to get an indication of the conditions on Lake Burley Griffin before coming down to sail.

This is the harder of the two to collect as you will require specialised equipment or be prepared to get wet, however please be aware that the webcams here do often stop working and can take a week or two to be restored.  Please feel free to log a note if you notice it is down.  Also you may need to remain at GZ for up to 5mins as they only update that often, and obviously you can only collect these in the daylight hours.

In order to log this cache you will need to obtain a screen shot of the webcam with you in the picture holding your GPSr and upload it with your log.

As I mentioned, this is the harder of the two as there is no dry land close enough in which you can stand on and collect this cache.  If you do not have the desire to get wet or the specialised equipment required perhaps try its companion Lake Burley Griffin - Webcam #1 in which you do not need specialised equipment or need to get wet for.

You can find the webcam at www.canberrayachtclub.com.au/webcam/cam.htm and is the upper picture on the page.  The lower picture is for geocaching.com.au/cache/ga3864

I started by finding a few caches around the MEGA ground. Next, I headed out with AngusnmumyAdventures and LilDonnasAdventure to enjoy the fun that the ‘Clear Waters’ mega event has to offer. We also collected some caches around the Canberra to try and fill in our ‘Cacheopoly’ board. Lots of fun and creative hides were found that were on the list to find and also some bonus finds. Big Grin Some of which were GCA finds for me. After finding the answers to claim a find on ‘The Federation Rocks!’ we headed off in our separate ways. Most were quick finds and were great to see that they were all maintained and in good shape. TB visit on all caches and most were signed as AMA, LDA & JM to save time and space. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found today and for allowing them to bring enjoyment to me and the caching community. Big Grin TFTC’s Big Grin

My first and second ever Webcam cache finds. Mr. GreenVery HappySmile Great fun and I think I have webcam fever because I want to find more now! Mr. GreenVery HappySmile

Another one we collected while we were out boating in our little hire boat, I did all the 'driving' today.

Took us a while to spot ourselves on the camera but got it in the end.

thansk for the cache.

Out on a go-boat hire with a total of seven Tasmanian teams and one banana bender Wink to pick up a few D5s on the lake. We had enough time to hover around for the 2 webcams here.

Cruising around Lake burley griffin in an ecoboat with a bunch of Tasmanians and happened to be in the right place at the right time. Photo attached.

A super nice day in the Nation's capital, so I threw the kayak on the roof racks and headed out to Lake Burley Griffin. This webcam cache was second on the list. With some careful placement of the kayak and regularly checking the iPhone, I soon found myself "on screen". Then I was invaded by a couple of Cerberus prospectors. Out numbered again!
Thanks Jusojara for the cache. One that's been on the list for a long time.

#GA1140 - 10:40; I've had this webcam and its mate on the 'to do' list for a long time and after grabbing its mate a couple of days ago, Sol de lune and I had agreed to team up again today, with Sdl to supply the specialist equipment and me the technology to enable the find. I arrived to find Sdl and Boot65 already on the water, so quickly set up the technology and soon had a screen shot in the bag. It was then my turn to swap places with Sol and paddle out while he grabbed a shot of me on the water. It wasn't long before this one was finally in the bag and we had three happy campers setting off from the carpark after loading the equipment for use another day. Having missed this one a couple of years ago, I came back today with LuckyL10n to try and again...armed with the required devices to ensure all was good. I paddled out on the lake first...only to find boot65 sitting his kayak doing the same thing. Turns out the current GCA game had enticed him out of hiding to attempt it as well. Now boot had already managed to make his find, but LuckyL10n soon had our devices set up and a photo from the webcam was soon snapped....with boot in this one as well.

With everything sorted, it was time for a swap...and LuckyL10n was soon in the kayak and heading out to take up the correct position while manned the equipment....which is always a bit of a worry, but again all turned out for the good.

Thanks jusojara....glad to have this one crossed off now....

No joy with this one either.......good morning for a paddle, but again, no smiley for me....

Mmmm. Noticed the number of people logging this one without being in the water. Covered by the noise of the wedding, I dragged a table to the site and stood on top the get in the pic, but it was to dark to see me anyway. Totally soaked. Going home.

Took a photo while going for a walk around the lake. Very Happy

So, back here again after Friday's failed attempt. I brought my special equipment, and even though I'm sure I must have looked like quite a loony, set up in what I thought was the right position.

I called home, but they couldnt see me so it was time to deploy the extra special equipment - and it worked! Kind of...

I hope the attached pic is acceptable to you jusojara - thats my GPS dangling from the strap of my walking pole you can see, and its hard to tell, but my hand is just in shot at the very bottom.

Well that was an interesting cache, the things we do in the name of a smiley. Thanks jusojara for the chance to make a public spectacle of myself.

Well that was a saga - I checked the website to discover the webcams were down again. I rang the club and they fixed the problem, but they went down again. Another call en route had them working again. Little Buds and I got our picture taken for cam #1, but while we were getting into position for this one, the technology failed again.

The wind was freezing and the light was failing, so we pulled the pin and went home. Will have to come back another day, which is a shame as this was the one I wanted for the Geosportz game.

Visited the yacht club today, but it seems the webcams are down.

A great day out on the Lake with a large flotilla of canoe crazy cachers with the worst incidents being a dunking at the start, probable sunburn for a few cachers and no doubt sore muscles for the following day.

The cacher names as registered on the Event roll are as follows so should be allowed to log this cache. Many thanks for the cache and all photos received by our great webcam operator (Mtbikeroz) will be uploaded soon!

Im the one ion the Olive green craft, not that you can distinguish one from another in that shot! Thanx for a great challenge!

A day of firsts for us. Our first kayaking event which by the way is now my favourite! Wink
As it turns out this is our first ever GCA cache. Thanks to JuSoJaRa for this webcam cache, they are actually one of my favorite types of caches even though I have probably only done two before. I'm glad our first ever GCA is a memorable one and done by one of our favorite caching families too.
Lots of fun arriving at GZ to find two groups getting the different camera angles.
I was able to line us up on the camera looking down the flag ropes via the iphone to get us in shot. Luckily we didn't go the extra 27meters to the actual GZ as I wonder if we would have been to far out of shot? Either way with the 15 or so water craft formed up as pontoon we were easily able to wait out the 4 minutes for the next shot. A screen shot on the iphone and we were done.
A sensational day on the lake and a really enjoyable group of people to spend it with.

If I ever get any time to scratch myself, hopefully I be able to put a video together of the day .

Thanks to rbirtles for organising such a great day, and to JuSoJaRa for this webcam cache.
A day I won't soon forget!

Well - that was fun! - And I just managend to get into the pic in time! (I'm the one on the bright green boat to the right! I discovered that my surfboard thingy was rather slow!

Found with batgirl mtrax and corvettepete. We were late for the main photo as had to rescue the batgirl and co capsize. The photo shows us rushing in the background to the camera in the powerboat TFTC. This one ended up being my 500th gca cache!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Photo opportunity. That is one of the SamWalkers front and centre in the red kayak. I was hidden somewhere behind the GUIO crew.

Really good to see a web cam cache springing up!

482. Headed over with the Canberran Armada to see if we could find Francis Drake and give him what for. What for? Just because he's a nice chap. Didn't find him but there were a few other drakes around and a few terns. In fact one nice tern arrived and then some others - coz one good tern deserves another.

Big thanks to Jusojara for allowing the flotilla to claim this webcam.

TFTC and the impromptu raft.

Logged as one of the very large group of flotsam hanging about in front of the webcam. Thanks jusojara for the opportunity, and thanks to mbo as chief photographer. A very pleasant morning out paddling around on the lake.

As Batgirl reports, we had a bit of trouble getting to this one and appreciated the assistance. The day picked up after that and we had a great time on a picture perfect day. TFTC

Made it by the skin of our teeth! "Us" being Mr and Mrs CorvettePete and I. After an attempt to re-arrange seating caused a capsize (just next to the shore so thankfully no damage and no problems other than a loss of time whilst we righted ourselves). Much thanks to GUIO for pointing out the issue and once fixed it was all ahead full....only problem was we were by now SOOOOOO far behind everyone else. Luckily Jusojara came along with his power and towed us over to the webcam site just as everyone else was leaving. Phone calls to mbo to see if he was still available for photo taking meant that we were able to nab both of these.

Woohooooo!

This was a fun one.
Whether it was "Oh no! We're 62m away! Oh no, the other way!", or trying to get all of our boats in the shot, or..just missing the refresh, or confusing the muggles that were sitting on shore (who we must of confused the living daylights out of!), i had fun doing this.

Was just a start on the madness today! Smile

31-Dec-11
I was with the floatilla of water craft we where a bit late was we had to rescue the BatGirl crew and tow them here, arrived thanks to the Cache owners powered craft, thats the way to go .
Thanks jusojara for the ride and the cache.

Cooeeee, a *FTF* on a lovely morning. Yes, I had to use some "special" equipment, seeing as the lake was down 1/2 a metre, but I got my (shiny) head and arm with watch & gps in hand in the pic. (Thanks to MtnLioness)
