Description
Find some long lasting Olympic ephemera
ephemera
ɪˈfɛm(ə)rə,-ˈfiːm-/
noun
Things that exist or are used or enjoyed for only a short time.
The Olympics are held every 4 years, run for 2 weeks and are then largely forgotten by the world at large but still have an impact on the locals for years to come. Statues, items, stadiums*, roads, parks, gardens and other things are built for the games, possibly only for the life of the games but persist long past the games. Long lasting ephemera if you will. Your task is to find something that represents the Olympic games. note it's co-ordinates, take a photo and make your log.
An example of an unknown Olypmic statue is the one in the picture below. There is no plaque, no information that I can easily find about the statue but it is obviously an Olympic related statue ad the man in gold reaches for the goal and the torch.
You can log this geocache up to 10 times as a find but there is no restriction on the proximity of your find to anyone else's. Olympic Boulevard here we come.
* Stadia is the correct Latin plural of stadium, it is however, far more common for English speakers to use stadiums.
Logs
Due to that I got to go to the Paralympics instead. I had friends in athletics and wheelchair rugby (murderball)
In 2000 Glen Dhu Primary School, where I was teaching, organized that their Year 6 students would go to the Para Olympics in Sydney. Many activities were organized prior to this including two local para-Olympic athletes visiting the school. on one occasion the Olympic Torch came to the school. The photo is of one of my students holding the torch. Edited to protect his privacy.
Found in Darling Harbour on a visit to Sydney
It has now been moved to Olympic Park at above coords
It truly was Ephemera, but resurrected
An additional olive tree has been planted in this location to commemorate the 2004 Athen Olympic torch relay which passed through the City of Rockdale on the 4th of June at Brighton Beach. The passing of the torch through here highlighting again the Greek heritage of the area.
Thanks for an interesting locationless caughtatwork.
GCA find #55
And grab a photo from the location of the photo in this listing.
I guess I don’t have to tell you about this statue.
Happy to also find the trad at this gz
Thanks for the cache here and the other as well.

What better momento of the Olympic Ephemera than that of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games Torch Run than the flame being "trekked" in action.
This photo is of my Dad carrying the torch for the said games on the road to Franklin from Huonville in Tasmania. An honour given Dad for his services to the sporting fraternity in the Huon Valley, specifically cricket amidst other community services that he constantly performed.
The torch was only used for the short period prior to it being used to lite the main flame in Sydney in 2000.
Sainted at 1000 hours
TFTC and cheers;

Its the start of one of my Multi caches.
The Royal Australian Mint put out a special Olympic set of 5 coloured $2 coins for the 2016 Rio Olympics and had a special display at the Mint in Canberra. I managed to get hold of a souvenir set.
Initially a series of trunk routes, the road was named the Olympic Way on 5 July 1963, in honour of part of the path that the Olympic Torch took on its journey from Cowra to Albury for the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. It was renamed as the Olympic Highway in 1996,[1] and the route between Wagga Wagga and Cowra was used for torch relay for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
Thank you caughtatwork for this cache.

The park is a "Hellenic Tribute" to the Greek involvement in the Olympics.
Hidden behind a large structure on the Great Western Highway, the plaque was was erected to celebrate Blacktown's role in the 2000 Olympics with its multiple venues
This afternoon, I found my confidence completely justified when I found this ephemeric item in the Nation Museum of Australia. For full details, see the second photo, but I think myself lucky that the maker's desire for the piece to end up with the Royal family wasn't realised.
Very pleased to add this one to my finds.

The next best thing I could find is Olympic Avenue here in Shepparton.
We have had a few fine Olympians in our region, but so far no monument has been put up for them, other than the local Sportsman's Hall Of Fame, and it encompasses all sporting personalities, not just Olympians.
Sheppparton hosts a lot of sporting events, especially lawn bowls, and will be holding the World Beach Volleyball competitions early next year..
Thankyou for the oppportunity of logging this Locationless.
From the 16th of September until the 1st of October 2000, Sydney hosted the Games of the XXVII Olympiad. These games were pronounced as "..the best Olympic Games ever."
Sydney, and especially the Olympic Park precinct were a mass with athletes, officials, spectators and the Olympic Volunteers in their "unique" uniforms.
Being an Olympic Volunteer allowed many "ordinary" people to be part of something quite special.
Well my old man just did that.
Found Olympic ring here- rowing competition during Olympic.
It's one of the many Sydney Olympic sites.
While holidaying in Berlin we visited the Olympic stadium and all around the area were still signs of the Olympics - that was 80 years ago.
Thanks for this cache CaughtAtWork

There is no plaque at this statue, no local information and the City of Stonnington have no idea what this is. If anyone knows anything about this statue, why it's here, what it celebrates or any other information, post a note so we can track down this long lasting Olympic ephemera.
