Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

After spending a few days in Gawler it was time for to drive my mums (well my car now) from Gawler back to Perth. This was day one travelling from Gawler to Streaky Bay on a 5 day 3,100km adventure.
And there are hundreds of signs saying do not drive tired so geocaching helped with that.
Found lots of caches on the trip.
Thanks for the cache and making me get out and stretch geocaching australia ClappingClan Minotaur .

There was a tower...and there was a badge thing at the bottom. I was more interested in the bottom than the top.

Ah... I've been here before Mr. Green Ventured to the top again today to check and see if the old traditional cache was still here but couldn't spot it. Did still enjoy the views however.
It's strange this structure, I'm accustomed to climbing and catwalks from my work but these steps always make me feel nervous! Perhaps its the looming feeling from the weight above you that does it?
Cheers and thanks for the views

We were in Pt. Augusta for a wedding so it was time to catch up on a few caches.

Visited early in the morning, after having a stop over in Port Augusta, on my way to Alice for the Red Centre Experience. Now this is my kind of Trig! Very different to any others I've visited, and I had to climb to the top. There's some great views of the surrounding landscape from up there. TFTT Geocaching Australia!

#GA1452 - 13:45; Day 7 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune and now albida33 who joined us in Burra yesterday. Today's plan is to cache around Port Augusta and then head south for a couple of days caching around Whyalla before heading north towards Alice Springs. After a morning caching around Port Augusta, we stopped off at this trig for Sdl and I to make the find before heading south towards Whyalla. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

One of the two best looking trigs I have seen. It's 'competitor' is the tall church spire in Carcoar, NSW. A different kind of trig!

before heading to Port Lincoln, just enough time to head up the hill and log the only Trig point in town.
Cheers.

Our 8th time passing through Port Augusta. Had been to this spot before and climbed the tower to get the cache here. This time we didn't bother, just grabbed the required photo and left. Thanks.

Found today on our SA caching road trip - driving from Port Augusta to Coober Pedy today. We stopped off here on our way out of town - very glad we did as it had stopped raining and we could get a great view of the town from up here. Not your usual trig either. Nice one Very Happy

After spending the weekend 4WDing at the Argadells, it was time to head home sort of . The temperature was around 41C and there were strong winds but I had airconditioning and plenty of water so lets go caching. Spent the day caching Pt Augusta and Pt Pirie but had to give up once the thunderstorms hit.

A good view from here

WanderingAus wandered by with the WanderingMrs (aka SWMBO) on day 140 of our annual Climatic Refugee trip. The WanderingMrs had determined through the wonders of the Information Superhighway that there was over a week of line dancing at the Wentworth Services Club, so after a couple of cold, wet and windy days in Horsham, and a night in Ouyen, we made our way to Curlwaa and booked in for five nights.

Once the line dancing competition was over the WanderingMrs was ready to head for home. After a night in Waikiri and a night in Jamestown we headed for Port Augusta via a roundabout way, and after checking into the caravan park for three nights we went for a drive.

On the third day in Port Augusta we got the washing done, then did some shopping before returning to the caravan park for lunch. After lunch I dropped the WanderingMrs in town for a couple of hours and she gave me a two hour leave pass, provided I refueled the geoPajero before picking her up.

Having found a heap of caches on the city side of the Gulf, I decided to cross the bridge and do some hunting on the West side, and this trig point was the first unfound I came across. Three years earlier I had found GCRWYY Towering Views by Bowz2, so I knew where the survey mark was, and it didn't take much to work out that the lump of wood sticking out of the top of the tower was the trig station.

This one is quite unique, a spire of wood emerging from the top of a former water tower which now serves as a lookout and home of a geocache.

This is certainly a unique trig point - not the traditional tripod or pyramid. We also found the survey marker.

This marker is located beneath an old water tower, which offers great views of the Port Augusta are, and also conceals a cache.
Locating the marker was very easy.
