Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

The views from the top over the lake and the uninterrupted views of the snow covered peaks are really something to behold. Getting here can be a bit of a challenge but totally worth it.

If only these trigs could talk.
They couldn't have put it higher... it is at the VERY top of The Paps. Vanes are in pretty good condition and the frame (no pedestal) is also in pretty good nick. TFTC.
We are currently touring Victoria with our geovan in tow, using geocaching as a guide. We have visited many amazing locations through geocaching and today our journey bought us this trig - The Paps. Found on a drizzly day and enjoyed the drive to this one. Managed to park beside the trig.
Many thanks Geocaching Australia for publishing this cache for our enjoyment and adding to our geocaching experience today.

********************This lengthy log is because we are currently working towards a trophy for "I write treatises for a living" - Average 150 or more words per valid dragonZone geocache find log or did not find log excluding geocaches that you own. Slowly getting there********************
The location has some significance for me too, since I helped install radio equipment here a few years back.
I put the camera down to take the required photo with the phone and only notices the lack of the camera after having descended about 800m down the mountain. Not being game to turn the car around on the narrow track, I walked back up to the top to find the camera.
Thanks Geocaching Australia - A top spot.
Some moon out to help show the way. Took a photo of the survey marker directly underneath as well. GREAT
The views across to a very snowy Mt Buller and Mt Stirling were sensational.
The road up has been improved recently, but high clearance is a must. My Subaru Outback with it's 200mm clearance was fine, but the average family sedan or low sports vehicle wouldn't do it. Even a long wheelbase 4WD might struggle on the high drainage humps.
I've attached photos of the trg and I, and the plate underneath.
My Garmin batteries were dead so the phone was doubling up as camera and GPSr and is not in the picture.
Many thanks Geocaching Australia.
Will log a picture when we get home

To be honest I'm surprised to have logged this one first, given the number of people who have found the nearby cache. Oh well, their loss!!
Great drive up here and amazing views to snow-capped Buller today.
