Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

In the heat today, it was not on the cards to climb for this one. I will settle for a shot from the base.

Like so many before I struggled to find the arrows on the way up but found many more on the decent!
Definitely one of the most challenging and spectacular trig points I have found to date and also I think the highlight of my Victorian adventure Mr. Green
The last 25m are a doosey!
Cheers and thanks for a challenging find Geocaching Australia

Nice climb up, though I certainly took the hard way up and didn't notice the 'marked' path until I wandered back down Brick Wall

#GA1087 - 08:50; Day 2 of the Melbourne Mega Mission with Sol de lune, now enroute from Kerang to Anglesea. While this trig was on our 'to do' list, we weren't sure about it until we arrived at the carpark and decided we had time up our sleeves and should give it a go. We made our way along the track, but turned to the left too soon along a nicely mowed strip. We made it close to the summit, but not quite there. We spotted an arrow closer to where we needed to be, but weren't able to get there from our current position. Decided to take our snaps and head down, but on the descent, picked up another arrow and headed off in the right direction. Finally made it to the top and took some snaps of the trig and the view before heading back down. Realised at the bottom that the mowed track was a red herring and we should have continued further along the trail before turning for the ascent. All good in the end and happy to have made the climb. Day 2 on the way to the Surf Coast Mega with LuckyL10n. We decided on the long way round to grab a few GCA caches....

What a great trig to access. We worked our way to the bottom of the trig, not seeing the arrows pointing the way to the top. Grabbed a couple of photos and then searched for a way to the top. LL spotted a second arrow and from there it was plan sailing to the top. We snapped a few photos, enjoyed the views before heading back down to the lowlands and continuing the trip south.

Excellent trig and a bit of fun exploring the area.

Oh why are not all trig points this prominent,
and this much fun to reach ? Shocked
This TP is visible from the township of Pyramid Hill Cool

The stroll to get to the TP is a damn good and fun rock scramble Very Happy
If you have a few rock climbing moves in your caching bag, you will probably feel a bit more confident climbing up here !!

The last little bit of the climb should sort the TP finders from the wannabes though !!
Just look for the white painted arrow on the rock face pointing to the right for directions to the top Laughing

Best of all you can see the Trig Point all the way to the top.
Mocking you !! Cool

Oh yes !!
The view from the top aint bad either Very Happy

Accessing this trig has been on the to do list for some time now just waiting on the necessary enthusiasm and opportunity!
Max negotiated his way to the top while Roma arranged our find log on the Earth Cache only recently published for this prominent hill
We agree with Phetlerns estimation of the terrain level as it is the most difficult Trig we have tackled to date.

Found on Australia Day. Though we have been up here many times it has taken a while to log this trig. Its a bit of a climb and can be quite treacherous.

We picked up the cache just below, and continued to the top for this trig point. great views all around from here.
Thanks, Robmc.

Greg climbed to within 37 m of this cache (as measured by GPS) but unable to reach summit due to incorrect footwear (unlike Wazzas effort in motorbike boots), and probably should give him 10 years or so extra age. In the spirit of the cache it's 50 metres, so I'll give him the log.

Myself and two muggle mates decided, as the weather was fantastic, to ride out to the Gunbower Pub for lunch then on to Pyramid Hill and return home via Mitiamo.
Well, the tucker at the Gunny Pub is great and a huge feed. ClappingClappingClappingClapping
At the Hill we stopped to have a look and with a bit of a shove the others agreed to make the climb. I'd been up the top a couple of years back chasing a GC cache so had a fair idea of the difficulty level of the climb.
Like Phetlern I'd rate it as a 3.5.
Great view and the chance to claim a GCA smilie made the climb all that more enjoyable - even in motorbike boots Sad
The lady at the Mitty store was on for a yack and we spent quite some time there a bit of the story of the new liquor license laws. Her license has gone from around $170 to just under $1500 per year. This has made selling booze a non profitable sideline for her business. The increase is to be used to better police alcohol problems. I suspect there are very few booze problems in a quiet country town and that the money will end up being used to try fixing an unfixable problem in the trouble spots of Melbourne. Yet another example of State Government of Melbourne only looking after its own backyard. Evil or Very MadEvil or Very MadEvil or Very MadEvil or Very Mad

Enough rant - we had a great day and look forward to another ride. DancingDancingDancingDancing

Love this spot, been before many many years ago. As has been mentioned this is difficult spot to get to and when there are snakes or moisture it would be downright silly to head up. I took a slightly different way up and down, and if you are looking for a challenge there are lots of rocks to scale and trees to navigate. My camera did not get the face of the GPS well, so I am putting up a few pictures for "cross referencing".

We visited this TP Cache, otherwise known as Pyramid Hill, after doing a GC cache just down the hillside - two for the price of one. Access to this cache is relatively difficult and we would give it a 3.5 on the terrain scale. There are a couple of very narrow ledges to negotiate with reasonably vertical drops if you are not careful.
