Logs for Capt. Bud

1st Mate Marty & I were on a tour along the west side of Yellowstone today, and stopped off here to do your EarthCache. These formations are indeed curious things. One could sit and watch them for along time. Answers on way to CO

Thanks for the EarthCache –

We just returned home from our 19-day trip out West, and so I am catching up on my logs. We happened across this location while traveling across highway 1 in British Columbia, near the small town of Craigellachie. The grounds at this park commemorate the driving of the last spike to complete the Canadian Pacific Railway on November 7, 1885. These grounds contain 2 different monuments, and related historical plaques. In 1971 it was designated as the Eagle Pass National Historical Event site, and listed in the Directory of Designations of National Historic Significance of Canada. It received the plaque for this designation with the 100-year anniversary of the driving of this last spike, in 1995. It also has a monument and plaque designating the location as a National Historic Civil Engineering Site. I had a picture of that plaque, as well as the one that I am posting of the other plaque. I guess I inadvertently deleted it, but following is the Web Site that contains that information. http://collections.ic.gc.ca/civileng/eng/details.asp?id=9

We just returned home from our 19-day trip out West, and so I am catching up on my logs. We found this border sign while entering Idaho from British Columbia, along Highway 95.

We just returned home from our 19-day trip out West, and so I am catching up on my logs. It sure is hard to find a caboose in service, but I finally spotted one while cruising through Golden, British Columbia. It was being operated by the Canadian Pacific Railroad, and was caboose #CP 434406. The posted coordinates are from where I took the picture.

We just returned home from our 19-day trip out West, and so I am catching up on my logs. We found the Fairmont Hot Springs in (where else) Fairmont, British Columbia. Several hot mineral streams came out of the rocks on the hillsides, and flowed through various little ponds in route to their destination. These ponds were open to public bathing, and we did see one couple taking advantage of this opportunity (with suits on).

This is the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, over Tampa Bay Florida. Rather than just copy and past a lot of information about it from a Web Site, I will attach the Web Site. The posted coordinates are from where I took the pictures, at a rest area on the south side of the bridge. http://www.bridgepros.com/projects/Sunshineskyway/Sunshineskyway.htm

The Cheboygan River Dam is located on the N.E. corner of U.S. 27 and W. Lincoln Ave. in Cheboygan, Michigan. The only outlet of the Inland Waterway in Northern Michigan, the dam maintains the water levels on Mullet Lake, and provides floodwater relief for the Inland Waterway. It was built in 1867 and rebuilt in 1927. The height of the dam is approximately 20 feet, and the elevation (according to my GPSr) is 621 feet. It also provides Hydro-electric power to the Great Lakes Tissue Company.

This is the Presque Isle Lighthouse in Northern Michigan, located off from U.S. 23 between Alpena and Rodgers City. It is registered as a Michigan Historical Site. Very beautiful spot along Lake Huron. I won’t go into a lot of details in this log, as I am attaching a Web Site that has all the information that anyone would want to know.
