Logs for Faming

Op zoek naar diep gezonken sponsers had ik mijn duikersuitrusting gelukkig niet nodig. Bedankt voor deze cache op niveau!
(Het antwoord is inmiddels door zowaar! goedgekeurd.)

When walking around I imagined horsecarts racing around just as in Ben-Hur.Thanks for the cache.

01-Jun-06
We had free entry to the Colosseum due to the festivities. Great place to visit.Thanks for the cache.

Pitty this one had to be archived; the spot is magnificent.
I was luky thrice: it was still there, it was an accidental found and there was nobody around so putting it back was no trouble. But it had already been disturbed before and as I said, we spotted it without searching for any... so it was a little public, the hiding place...
Shame none the less!

17-Mar-05
On a trip from Cairns to Sydney (6 berth camper); Sydney to Melbourne (rental car) and around Tasmania (4WD mini camper) in 5 weeks; found some time to do some geocache hunting.
This is my last cache of the trip. As I was not able to do any caching in Hobart (just drove through it from/to the airport) this is also the most remote cache from my home location to be found (the most southerly being GCKZA6 "Strahan Keychain Exchange", but only just!).
Took a nice walk as suggested by an info board at the beach site. The cache was just a short stroll away from the given route. A perfect one to conclude my southern hemisphere caching experience; next day back to Holland.

Found by pure coincidence!
On a trip from Cairns to Sydney (6 berth camper); Sydney to Melbourne (rental car) and around Tasmania (4WD mini camper) in 5 weeks; found some time to do some geocache hunting. But this was NOT one of them. Due to the enormous amount of caches in Hong Kong, along the east Australian coast and it's cities, as wel as in Tasmania, I had to reduce this number to a managable amount. For Tasmania it was a rather aselect sift as the itenary was not predetermined. I guess this one didn't make it to the happy few.
Anyway we decided to travel from Strahan to Cradle Valley (had an excellent walk around Lake Dove) and next day to Launceston via Mole Creek. Of course we stopped on the C138 to enjoy the designated view. My fellow traveler stepped beyond the fence for a better shot, and on his way back spotted an object which turned out to be a cache!
Back home in Holland I had to find its page by location search as the cache didn't reveal its name! It is almost like a Reverse Cache this way.
Thanks for the bonus.

As I was not able to do any caching in Hobart (just drove through it from/to the airport) this is the most southerly cache I have found (but NOT the most remote from my home location, that honour goes to GCM3YF "A Hazardous View").

Camping on the Macquarie Hds beach allowed and this was a 4WD, although we lacked any experience. And sure enough after two cars took the sandy hill easily we got stuck with the hind wheels burying themselves deeper and deeper into the sand. A local fisherman pointed out we had to lock the front free-wheel hubs! The rental company never told us that...
Anyway on our way back next day took a stroll along a quiet desolated beach in Strahan. Had a bit of a search to find our way up to this beach, but enjoyed the scenery.
Had no keychain to swap but dropped TBHKCV "Tasmanian Devil". As you can see on its site, this TB is as near to a keychain swap as you can get.

Came passed this one on a stroll through the city. Art or not, my fellow traveller did not understand why I took the trouble photographing and measuring this object... was this what we travelled over 20000 km for???
Read the cache details at the spot and as I did not have a measuring tool I used my camera as a ruler.
(My answers are approved by dak's Emu Mob 23th march to validate this log.)

18 Years ago I was here before. For some reason an image of the Thomas Cook Memorial Globe has from early childhood always been stuck in my mind. I was so disapointed it had been removed for renovation due to the bicentennial next year!! So, now I was once again in Commonwealth Park and finally could see the globe for real.
As an added bonus this cache took me to some places of the park wel worth visiting. Thanks.

I did came across the black box, but couldn't find anything else. Except a travelbug that is! The TB was solitary and uncovered lying at the spot where I suppose the stash should have been hidden.
I took the TB and back home at Holland traced it to be TBG7W7 "NV Pink Bear". It is last reported to be at GCHTH9 "GRCC - II" in the USA! I reported the TB to be taken by me from this cache (although I couldn't find the cache itself) just to get the travelled distance right.

I was surprised to understand from later logs that the cache in fact is still present!
This all adds to the mystery: a TB last reported in the USA found by a Dutchman at a spot in Australia where the cache itself is NOT found, but apparently present all the same...

As a tourist obviously I came across the Quay's quite a lot. As a tourist obviously I made a lot of pictures So this cache fits perfectly in a tourists itenary!
I "shot" Douglas Stewart as his tile was nearest to where I was standing. I never heard of him, but that is a good thing in a way: now I have to do some research to get at least the title of one of his works.

Kookbaurra (1930)
I see we have undervalued the kookaburra;
they think they are waking the world, and I think so too.
They gobble the night in their throats like purple berries,
they plunge their beaks in the tide of darkness and dew
and fish up long rays of light; no wonder now they howl
In such triumph of trumpets, leaves fall from the trees,
small birds fly backwards, snakes disappear into a hole.
All day long they will rule the bush as they please.
Perched on high branches, one eye cocked for the snake,
from treetop to treetop they watch the sun and follow it;
far in the west they take it in that great beak
and bang it against a bluegum branch and swallow it;
then nothing is left in the world but the kookaburras
like waterfalls exulting down from the gullies.

Thanks for the educational quest.

Parked the camper in Yeronga at some relatives and took the train into the city. Reception was quite poor and the bikes drove me crazy; really had to pay attention not only to my GPSr otherwise I would be knocked down! Actually I was about to give up when my travel companion grabbed the GPSr out of my hands and walked kind of straight to the cache and gotcha! Thanks for taking me to this park, especially the boardwalk is great.

I enjoyed hiking in Cape Hillsborough extremely much, through the forest and across the beach, and just had to have this one to mark this wonderful place! Unfortunately, due to the late hour I had to give up searching. I was right on the spot, but had no luck in finding it. Well, I do have a Cape Hillsborough T-shirt, that's something... Wink

As I was unlucky in Cairns (due to camper breakdown, night location and heavy rain) this is my first and most northerly cache of the trip.
Liked Townsville very much; thanks for the search.
